Here are the candidates for the WaFd Bank Arizona High School Athlete of the Week for May 17-23 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers.

Alyssa Aguilar, Salpointe Catholic softball: Aguilar socked a home run and pitched a complete game to lead Salpointe Catholic to the Class 4A championship with a 5-4 win over Vista Grande.

Carson Baker, Liberty baseball: Baker had two hits and three RBIs in Liberty’s 10-0 rout of Alhambra in the Class 6A final.

Riley Flynn, Xavier Prep softball: Flynn pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts in Xavier Prep’s 10-0 five-inning win over Red Mountain in the Class 6A championship game.

Wes Kath, Desert Mountain baseball: Kath homered, singled, scored two runs and drove in two as Desert Mountain defeated Sunrise Mountain 6-1 in the Class 5A championship game.

Macy Lee, Xavier Prep softball: Lee doubled twice and hit a grand slam, finishing with seven RBIs in Xavier Prep’s 10-0 rout of Red Mountain for the Class 6A title.

Riley Nielson, Sabino softball: Nielson struck out 10 as part of a six-hit complete game, pitching Sabino to a 4-1 victory against Payson in the Class 3A final.

Chris Robles, Mesquite baseball: Robles drove in both runs in Mesquite’s 2-1 win over Salpointe Catholic in the Class 4A title game.

Yesenia Romero, Sabino softball: Romero singled, doubled and drove in three to help Sabino defeat Payson 4-1 for the Class 3A crown.

Ashley Stewart, Sabino softball: Stewart was 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs in Sabino’s Class 3A title-clinching 4-1 victory over Payson.

Tristen Turlington, Willow Canyon softball: Turlington doubled, tripled, scored twice and drove in three to help power Willow Canyon to a 12-4 win over Canyon View in the Class 5A final.

Jake Wiltshire, Sabino baseball: Wiltshire had two hits and two RBIs to help lead Sabino to the Class 3A championship with a 12-8 victory against Odyssey Institute.
