Brandon Girls Volleyball star Sunni Sheppard voted SBLive’s Mississippi High School Athlete of the Week
Congratulations to Brandon girls volleyball starSunni Sheppard for being voted SBLive’s Mississippi High School Athlete of the Week for Oct. 18-24!
The junior libero had 33 digs vs 36 serve receptions in Brandon’s match against Ocean Springs. She also recorded 31 digs vs 34 serve receptions in the Bulldogs’ State Championship against Oxford.
Sheppard received 49.79% of the vote, beating out Southaven's John Slaughter who finished second with 14.44%. Ripley's ImmanuelGriffin finished third with 9.57% and Brandon's Abigail Rodgers finished fourth with 9.41%. There were over 51,000 votes tallied this week!

Green Won MVP honors and helped the Lady Cardinals sweep Sacred Heart 3-0 to win the 2A Volleyball State Championship.
Sydney Cason, VancleaveGirls Volleyball
Cason scored 10 straight points for Vancleave in the fourth set and, the beginning of the fifth set to help Vancleave win fifth-straight MHSAA Class 5A Volleyball Championship.
Abigail Rodgers, BrandonGirls Volleyball
Rodgers had five kills in the fourth set and helped the Lady Bulldogs pull away late to a 25-20 win, then added four more and an ace in the final set, which Brandon ended up winning 15-11. She was also named MVP for the 6A Volleyball State Championship.
Mia Griffin, Alcorn Central Girls Volleyball
Griffin had 22 kills and 12 digs to lead Alcorn Central to their first 3A Volleyball State Championship and was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.
Audrey Hamill, Pontotac Girls Volleyball
Hamill took home MVP honors, leading the team in assists and finishing with five kills and three serving aces. Pontotac captured Class 4A State Championship.
Emma Wilson, Hickory Flat Girls Volleyball
Wilson had 22 kills to lead Hickory Flat to first 1A State Championship and was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.
Jalen Aborom, Oak Grove
Caught four passes for 87 yards and returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown in a 24-17 loss to Brandon.
Dayan Bilbo, Vancleave
Rushed for five touchdowns in a 49-29 win over Pearl River Central.
Nate Blount, Brandon
Rushed 36 times for 260 yards and a touchdown in Brandon’s 24-17 win over No. 3 Oak Grove.
Dante Dowdell, Picayune
Rushed 26 times for 248 yards and three touchdowns in a 59-33 win over George County.
Immanuel Griffin, Ripley
Racked up 408 total yards and seven touchdowns in a 52-44 win over Houston.
Bray Hubbard, Ocean Springs
Completed 13 of 20 passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns and rushed 13 times for 130 yards and another score in a 48-0 win over St. Martin.
Khalid Moore, Poplarville
Forced two fumbles and recovered two fumbles to go along with six tackles in a 27-3 loss to Columbia.
Tralyn Oliver, Olive Branch
Rushed 31 times for 257 yards and a touchdown in a 20-13 win over Center Hill.
Vontrez Rush, Simmons
Rushed nine times for 182 yards and four touchdowns in a 70-6 win over West Tallahatchie.
John Slaughter, Southaven
Forced two fumbles and snagged one interception to go along with eight tackles in a 47-6 win over Lewisburg.
Cooper Stroud, Hartfield Academy
Recorded 18 tackles in a 22-17 win over Jackson Prep.
Jamari Thompson, Pearl
Rushed for five touchdowns in the Pirates’ 64-44 win over Northwest Rankin.
Ashton Ware, Sacred Heart
Pulled in six catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns in the Crusaders’ 42-36 win over East Marion.
Roman Gregory, Oxford
Gregory rushed for 116 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead Oxford to a 42-35 win over Starkville. Gregory racked up nearly 300 all-purpose yards, including a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Jerry Wall, Olive Branch
Was credited with 12 total tackles, including 2.5 for a loss, one sack, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in a 20-13 win over Center Hill.
Miles Cox, Belmont
Had 29 carries, 3 TDs and 243 yards for the Cardinals in their 34-13 win against Walnut.
Nick Thompson, St. Patrick
Thompson rushed for 115 yards and 3 TDs on 4 carries including an 80 yard run in St. Patrick’s loss to Seminary.
