6A girls second round

Sherwood 3, Lincoln 1

Sherwood broke a 1-1 halftime tie with two second-half goals, giving the Bowmen a 3-1 win over Lincoln in the second-round match at Sherwood High School.

In the first half, Sherwood got a goal by Ella Weathers off an assist by Brynn Lahart. Midway through the second half, the Bowmen took a 2-1 lead when Katelyn Morris scored off a corner kick by Matiana Riquelme. Weathers added her second goal, again coming off an assist from Lahart, to wrap up the scoring.

Sherwood also got three key saves from goalkeeper Tali Kozma.

Sherwood improved to 8-3-6. The Bowmen will play host to Pacific Conference rival Forest Grove in a quarterfinal match Saturday. Lincoln finished its season 11-5-1.

Beaverton 1, Summit 0

Beaverton got a late goal by Emily Rice, coming off an assist by Macy Deckert, to get a 1-0 home win over Summit in the second-round contest.

The Beavers’ defensive line of Danika Kime, Hannah Rice, Natalie Drotzmann, Katelynn Sanders and Audrey Johnson also stepped up to stop the Summit attack. Beaverton goalkeeper Brielle Fernando had three saves to help preserve the shutout.

Beaverton improved to 13-2-1. The Beavers will play at Bend in a quarterfinal match Saturday. Summit finished its season 7-3-5.

Oregon City 1, Mountainside 0

Oregon City got a goal by freshman Olivia Bariao-Acre, coming off a corner kick by Mia Spellmen, 10 minutes into the contest, and made that stand in a 1-0 second-round win over Mountainside at Pioneer Memorial Stadium.

Defenders Rachel Remsburg and Kaydyn Guelsdorf helped Oregon City preserve the shutout.

Oregon City improved to 13-4. The Pioneers will play on the road against Grant in Saturday’s quarterfinal round. Mountainside finished its season 9-5-2.

Lake Oswego 4, South Medford 0

The Lakers got an early goal from Rylee Winn and never looked back on their way to scoring a 4-0 victory over South Medford in a second-round match at Lake Oswego High School.

Lake Oswego added a first-half goal by Anjali Cherian, coming off an assist by Alix Shipton. In the second half, the Lakers got goals from Lauren DeGroot and Megan Ko to wrap up the 4-0 victory.

Lake Oswego improved to 14-0-2. The Lakers will play host to Sunset in a quarterfinal match Saturday.

South Medford finished its season 9-4-2.

Grant 2, South Eugene 0

Katarina Roesinger scored twice, with one of the goals coming off an assist from Minami Powers, to help lead Grant to a 2-0 win over South Eugene in a second-round match at Delta Park.

Grant improved to 14-1-1. The Generals will play host to Oregon City in a quarterfinal match Saturday. South Eugene finished its season 10-5-1.

Forest Grove 3, Jesuit 2 (OT)

5A girls first round

Pendleton 2, Thurston 1

Pendleton got a goal and an assist from Ashtyn Larsen and a goal from Kelsey Lovercheck to get the first-round home win over Thurston.

The Buckaroos also got strong play from the defensive line of Alison Spratling, Hailey Schmidt, Madden Schumacher and Bri Youncs.

“It was a whole team effort,” Pendleton coach Kiana Rickman said. “They showed heart for 80 minutes.”

Senior Shaelie Anderson scored Thurston’s goal, coming off a pass from Ella Dzmura.

Pendleton improved to 11-3-1. The Buckaroos will play at La Salle Prep in a quarterfinal match Saturday. Thurston finished its season 6-5-3.

West Albany 1, Ashland 0

West Albany made a long road trip and came away with a win in the first-round match at Ashland.

Senior captain Nikki Beers put in a free kick from 35 yards, notching the ball in the upper right corner in the 25th minute.

Beers joined the rest of the Bulldogs’ defense in maintaining the shutout. West Albany goalkeeper Shelby Tarrant made a huge save early, which proved to be decisive. West Albany also got strong play from Lily Ruiz, who created several opportunities.

“This was a great team win, as our bench had their best performance of the year,” West Albany coach Erik Ihde said.

West Albany improved to 9-6. The Bulldogs will play at North Eugene in a quarterfinal match Saturday. Ashland finished its season 8-1-5.

North Eugene 4, Silverton 0

North Eugene scored three second-half goals to break open a close game and get a 4-0 win over Silverton in a first-round match at North Eugene.

Senior Ashley Hart scored two goals for North Eugene. Sophomore Kara Becraft and senior Chloe Wallace each scored one. Junior Emily Johnson added an assist.

Senior goalkeeper Delanie Stiffler had her 12th shutout of the season.

North Eugene improved to 12-0-2. The Highlanders will play host to West Albany in a quarterfinal match Saturday. Silverton finished its season 6-6-1.

Crescent Valley 5, Hillsboro 0

Abby Smith had two goals and an assist to help the Raiders get a 5-0 home win over Hillsboro in the first-round match.

Nicole Huang added a goal and an assist for Crescent Valley. Meredith Merten and Greta Koegler each added a goal. Hirut Denver had two assists, and Bailey O’Briant had one assist.

Crescent Valley had 21 shots in the win, while limiting Hillsboro to three.

Crescent Valley improved to 11-1-1. The Raiders will play host to Corvallis in a quarterfinal match Saturday. Hillsboro finished its season 7-6-1.

La Salle Prep 8, Churchill 0

La Salle Prep opened the state playoffs with a convincing 8-0 win over Churchill in a first-round match at La Salle Prep.

Natalie Pfledger, Emilia Warta and Sydney Spots each scored twice for the Falcons. Gretchen Shea and Kate Collins added one goal apiece.

La Salle Prep moved to 13-2-1 on the season. The Falcons will play host to Pendleton in a quarterfinal match Saturday. Churchill finished its season 4-9-1.

Wilsonville 8, Willamette 0

Lindsey Antonson scored on an assist from Jenna Weiss in the second minute, and Wilsonville took off from there, getting an 8-0 win over Willamette in a first-round match at Wilsonville High School.

Antonson ended up scoring five goals. The Wildcats also got goals from Annika Jenson, Brianne Crane and Kenley Whittaker.

“We’re really proud of how creative and gritty the team was up top tonight, to find the back of the net while maintaining discipline on the defensive end, and securing the shutout,” Wilsonville coach Alex Boehm said.

Wilsonville improved to 15-0-1. The Wildcats will play host to Putnam in a quarterfinal match Saturday. Willamette finished the season 6-8-1.

Corvallis 4, Redmond 1

Redmond battled hard but came up short, falling 4-1 to Corvallis in a first-round match Tuesday at Corvallis High School.

Redmond sophomore forward Reese Wedding scored the Panthers’ goal, coming in the first half. She had some other close chances in the contest. Redmond also got a strong effort from senior captain Dagne Harris on the defensive end of the field.

Corvallis improved to 11-3. On Saturday, the Spartans will play at Crescent Valley in a quarterfinal match at 7 p.m. Redmond finished its season 9-4-1.

4A girls first round

Philomath 3, Henley 2

Henley scored the first goal two minutes into the contest, but Philomath came back strong to get the win.

Philomath got the equalizer just before halftime on a goal by Elizabeth Morales-Marquez, off a pass from Kamilla Gimmer. Philomath added another goal by Morales-Marquez, coming on a follow-up shot following an attempt by Grimmer in the 48th minute.

In the 64th minute, Philomath got a goal by Petra Hernandez, off a cross by Bailey Bell. A late Henley goal made the final 3-2.

“We had a really good, hard-fought match,” Philomath coach Mat Phelps said. “Our girls stayed really composed after conceding early.”

Philomath, which improved to 10-2-3, will play at North Marion in a quarterfinal match Tuesday. Henley finished its season 10-5.

Valley Catholic 4, Mazama 0

Mia Rosebrook, Makenzie McCollum, Casmira Fox and Mariella Gunther scored for the Valiants in their 4-0 first-round win over Mazama in a first-round match at Valley Catholic High School.

Goalkeeper Mary Lou Lux had a couple of key saves for the Valiants.

Valley Catholic improved to 13-1-1. The Valiants will play at Hidden Valley in a quarterfinal match Saturday. Mazama finished its season 6-5-2.

Gladstone 5, Newport 0

Gladstone jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead and then pulled away in the second half to get a 5-0 win over Newport in a first-round match at Gladstone High School.

Freshman Victoria Vera scored two goals for Gladstone. Sophomore Madison Hill had a goal and two assists. Junior Giselle Martinez and junior Rhyli Grimm each scored once.

Goalkeeper Emersyn Stepp and the Gladiators defense were able to secure the shutout.

Gladstone improved to 14-1. The Gladiators will play host to Marist Catholic in a quarterfinal match Saturday.

Newport finished its season 7-9.

Hidden Valley 5, Estacada 0

Riley Yunker scored two goals, including one off a header from a Skylar Willey corner kick, to help lead Hidden Valley to a 5-0 home win against Estacada.

Leah Beachy also scored a header goal, off a Willey free kick, adding to goals made by Taya Mendoza and Sophie Sorce.

The defensive line of Maria Cross, Lexi Hill and Lily Emmons stepped up to help preserve the shutout. Hidden Valley improved to 13-0-2. The Mustangs will play host to Valley Catholic in a quarterfinal match Saturday. Estacada finished its season 7-7-2.

Marist Catholic 3, Sisters 1 (OT)

Marist Catholic rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to get a 3-1 win over Sisters in a first-round match at Marist Catholic.

Sisters took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Anya Shockley in the eighth minute. Marist Catholic captain Madison Fuller tied the score with a penalty kick goal, coming with seven minutes left in the first half. The score remained 1-1 at the end of regulation.

In overtime, Marist Catholic got two goals from Cloe Chase, coming off assists by Sydney Clark and Savannah Crawford, to get the victory.

“Hats off to Sisters for fighting throughout the entire game,” Marist Catholic coach Steffan Schroffner said. “They are a good team and are well-coached, but there was no stopping Marist tonight. It was just a matter of time. We were at home at our house tonight, and we earned that comeback win, no question.”

Marist Catholic improved to 13-1-2. The Spartans will play at Gladstone in a quarterfinal match Saturday. Sisters finished its season 10-4-2.

North Marion 6, Astoria 0

Dominique Huapeo scored three goals in the first 18 minutes, setting the tone for North Marion in its 6-0 home victory over Astoria.

Saylor Swanson, Caile Lader and Fia Swanson had the other goals for North Marion. Adrie Lader had two assists. Teagan Welch, Caile Lader, Huapeo and Vanessa Valenzuela each had one.

The North Marion defense held Astoria to one shot, which was scooped up by goalkeeper Mallory Patzer.

North Marion improved to 11-3-1. The Huskies will play host to Philomath in a quarterfinal match Saturday. Astoria finished its season 7-6-3.

La Grande 1, Corbett 0

La Grande was able to break through in a back-and-forth battle to get a 1-0 victory over Corbett in a first-round match at Eastern Oregon University.

Rosie Aguilera scored the only goal, coming on a penalty kick 8 minutes and 30 seconds into the second half, after Giselle Sanchez drew a foul in the penalty box.

La Grande improved to 11-2-1. The Tigers will play at Woodburn in a quarterfinal match Saturday. Corbett finished its season 10-5-1.

Woodburn 2, North Valley 1 (PKs)

Woodburn emerged victorious, 4-3, in a penalty-kick shootout to get a 2-1 win over North Valley in a first-round match Tuesday at Woodburn High School.

Woodburn struck first, getting a goal by Myranda Marquez off an assist from Larissa Fragoso in the 35th minute. North Valley tied the score with a penalty-kick goal near the midway point of the second half.

Neither team was able to score again in regulation play or in the 20-minute overtime, sending the match to a penalty-kick shootout. Woodburn goalie Litzy Gonzalez make a couple of saves during the shootout. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs got successful attempts from Luz Rojas, Marquez, Caitlynn Spencer and Hadassah Nava to get the win.

Woodburn improved to 10-0-4. The Bulldogs will play host to La Grande at 2 p.m. Saturday in a quarterfinal match. North Valley ended its season 7-5-3.

3A/2A/1A girls first round

St. Mary’s 5, Amity/Western Christian 1

Sophomore Samantha Gallardo had a standout game for the St. Mary’s Crusaders in their first-round playoff win against Amity/Western Christian.

Following a rough first half for the Crusaders which saw a 27th minute PK put them down 1-0, junior Kate Stillwell played fellow midfielder Gallardo in the 46th minute with Gallardo putting a 25-yard shot in the net at the back post. Just a minute later, sophomore Lili Castillo won a 50-50 ball in the defense and fed senior Ryker Rothfus, who slotted the second Crusaders goal.

In the 54th minute, the two goal-scorers hooked up when Gallardo played a through ball to Rothfus, who calmly finished past the Amity/Western Christian goalie. A rough tackle saw the Crusaders take a PK in the 68th minute, which Gallardo converted for her second goal. She then got her second assist in the 71st minute when her corner kick found junior Whitney West, who was able to finish inside the 6-yard box.

St. Mary’s improved to 7-6. The Crusaders will play at Catlin Gabel in a quarterfinal match Saturday. Amity/Western Christian finished its season 10-5-1.

Catlin Gabel 8, Lakeview 0

Junior Charlotte Long scored three goals in the first 24 minutes, helping lead Catlin Gabel to an 8-0 home win over Lakeview in a first-round match.

Alicia Ye added two goals for the defending champions. Kendrick Dahlin had a goal and three assists. Lola Diaz Gonzalez had a goal and an assist. Campbell Swaim had a goal and two assists. Pia Patrickson added a goal for the Eagles, who led 8-0 at halftime.

Catlin Gabel improved to 11-2-1. The Eagles will play host to St. Mary’s in a quarterfinal match Saturday. Lakeview finished its season 6-5.

Dayton 2, Brookings-Harbor 1

Brookings-Harbor struck first and held a 1-0 lead at halftime, but Dayton rallied in the second half to get a 2-1 victory in the first-round match at Dayton High School.

The Pirates tied the score in the 55th minute on a low shot by Melissa Arroyo to the bottom of the goal. Dayton took the lead in the 63rd minute when Adalynn Williams, who switched from goalkeeper to midfield midway through the second half, hit a one-touch pass to forward Paola Covarrubias, who touched the ball past two defenders and into the goal. Strong defense and key play by backup goalkeeper Natalie Olveira kept the Bruins from getting an equalizer.

Dayton improved to 12-2-1. The Pirates will play host to Sutherlin in a quarterfinal match Saturday. Brookings-Harbor finished its season 10-4.

Sutherlin 7, Central Linn 3

Micah Wicks, Madison Wagner and Kristen Gandy each scored two goals to help Sutherlin score a 7-3 win over Central Linn in a home first-round match.

Paige Edmondson added two assists for the Bulldogs. The Sutherlin defense, featuring Jaden Ratledge and Keeley Guthrie, helped shut down Central Linn’s offense in the second half.

Central Linn scored first, with Katie Almasie scoring off a cross from Maya Rowland. Lora Johnson and Rowland added goals for Central Linn.

Sutherlin improved to 10-1-1. The Bulldogs will play at Dayton in a quarterfinal match Tuesday. Central Linn finished its season 6-7-1.

Riverdale 2, Santiam Christian 1 (PKs)

Riverdale edged Santiam Christian 7-6 in a penalty-kick shootout to get the 2-1 win on the road in a first-round match.

Truly Martin scored for Riverdale in the 29th minute, with Oliva Haima tying the score in the 58th minute.

After the teams were still tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation, and at the end of two 10-minute overtime sessions, the match went to a shootout. Riverdale goalkeeper Hannah Conte had three saves during the shootout. Freshman Isabel Milla scored the winning seventh penalty kick goal for Riverdale.

Riverdale improved to 7-5. The Mavericks will play at Pleasant Hill in a quarterfinal match Saturday. Santiam Christian finished its season 11-4.

Pleasant Hill 3, Blanchet Catholic 0

Sophomore forward Tressa Geyer scored two first-half goals, and senior captain midfielder Liesel Geyer added a second-half tally to help Pleasant Hill get a 3-0 first-round home win over Blanchet Catholic.

Juniors Maddie Boettcher and Emma Dyemartin and freshman Tessa Hammond each had an assist for the Billies. Pleasant Hill goalkeeper Stella Hucka had four saves.

Pleasant Hill improved to 11-2. The Billies will play host to Riverdale in a quarterfinal match Saturday. Blanchet Catholic finished its season 7-8-1.

Riverside 2, Yamhill-Carlton 0

Jasmin Lopez scored two first-half goals, both coming off corner kick assists by Layla Castillo, to help lead Riverside to a 2-0 home win over Yamhill-Carlton.

The Riverside defense, including Crystal Sanchez, Lopez, Valeria Echevarria and Marta Bajaras, stepped up to preserve the shutout, along with goalkeeper Arely Cambero, who had seven saves.

“The whole team was mentally prepared and ready to go all-out,” Riverside coach Yvonne Torres said. “Which was shown throughout the game.”

Riverside improved to 12-2-1. The Pirates will play at Oregon Episcopal School in a quarterfinal match Saturday. Yamhill-Carlton finished its season 11-4-1.

Oregon Episcopal School 7, Echo 0

Top-seeded Oregon Episcopal School got its postseason trek off to a roaring start, beating Echo 7-0 in a first-round match played Tuesday at OES.

Nina Kaiser scored three goals to help lead the way for the Aardvarks. Nadia Schwartz added two goals and two assists. Olivia Faucera had one goal and two assists. Zoe Bullard had two assists, and Etti Teherani-Ami tallied a goal.

OES improved to 9-2. On Saturday, the Aardvarks will play host to Riverside in a quarterfinal match at 1:30 p.m. Echo finished its season 6-7-2.
