The first week of the 2021 San Diego Section high school football playoffs took place on Friday. Teams seeded 5-12 in Divisions 1-5 all played their first rounds games. The Open Division gets started on Friday (Nov. 12) with both semifinal games.

Here’s everything you need to know about the first week of postseason action.

DIVISION 1 (Bracket)

No. 9 Grossmont beat No. 8 Steele Canyon, 17-14, on a last minute field goal.

No. 5 El Camino defended home field, beating No. 12 St. Augustine for the second time this season, 23-14. Marquis Bell had two interceptions for the Wildcats.

No. 10 Granite Hills went to No. 7 Oceanside and handled the Pirates, 31-14.

No. 6 Eastlake survived a battle against No. 11 San Marcos, 7-3. The Knights were without several key players and coaches due to COVID-19 protocols.

DIVISION 2 (Bracket)

No. 9 Christian came from behind to take down No. 8 San Marcos, 31-28.

No. 5 Valley Center handled business against No. 12 Point Loma, 28-7.

No. 10 Central traveled west and took down No. 7 Otay Ranch, 33-28.

No. 6 Rancho Bernardo survived against No. 11 Bishop's, 15-14. The Knights game-winning field goal attempt hit the right upright as time expired.

DIVISION 3 (BRACKET)

No. 8 Santana used an overtime session to take down No. 9 Imperial, 24-21.

No. 5 West Hills scored in every quarter on their way to a win over No. 12 Bonita Vista, 41-28. The Wolf Pack ran for 337 yards as a team.

No. 7 El Capitan beat No. 10 Orange Glen in overtime, 41-34.

No. 6 Brawley led 42-0 at halftime on their way to a 49-7 win over No. 11 Westview.

DIVISION 4 (BRACKET)

No. 8 La Jolla Country Day beat No. 9 Mt. Miguel, 26-20.

No. 5 Rancho Buena Vista dominated No. 12 Mar Vista, 50-18. Sophomore running back Bjorn Hermansen ran for 254 yards and thee touchdowns.

No. 7 Montgomery beat No. 10 Francis Parker, 35-6. The Aztecs ran for 387 yards and had five rushing touchdowns.

No. 6 Sweetwater used a dominant ground game to beat Valhalla, 73-6. The Red Devils had 420 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns.

DIVISION 5 (BRACKET)

No. 8 Crawford shutout No. 9 Mountain Empire, 19-0.

No. 12 San Ysidro recorded the first playoff win in school history, beating No. 5 Escondido Charter, 16-13.

No. 10 El Cajon Valley beat No. 7 Army-Navy Academy, 21-14.

No. 6 Calexico had no trouble with No. 11 Maranatha Christian, 34-3.

DIVISION 6 (BRACKET)

No. 1 San Diego Jewish Academy continued their offensive dominance, beating No. 3 Victory Christian, 50-28, in the CIF Championship game.
