What happened in the second week of 2021 San Diego Section high school football playoffs? Here’s everything you need to know
The first week of the 2021 San Diego Section high school football playoffs took place on Friday. Teams competing in the Open Division played their semifinal round games and teams in Divisions 1-5 played quarterfinal games.
Here’s everything you need to know about the second week of postseason action.
OPEN DIVISION (Bracket)
No. 1 Carlsbad jumped on No. 4 Torrey Pines early and took down the Falcons, 44-7.
No. 2 Cathedral Catholic had no trouble with No. 3 Mission Hills, beating the Grizzlies 38-10. Lucky Sutton had four touchdowns for the Dons.
Carlsbad and Cathedral Catholic will meet on Saturday, November 20th for the San Diego Section Open Division Championship. The game is scheduled for 7pm at Escondido High School.
DIVISION 1 (Bracket)
No. 1 Helix got 337 rushing yards and five touchdowns to help take down No. 9 Grossmont, 41-24.
No. 5 El Camino got redemption from the regular season against No. 4 La Costa Canyon, beating the Mavericks 30-20.
No. 3 Lincoln took down No. 6 Eastlake in a shootout, 41-31. Roderick Robinson ran for 200 yards and three touchdowns.
No. 2 Madison scored a touchdown in each quarter, taking down No. 10 Granite Hills, 28-20.
DIVISION 2 (Bracket)
No. 1 Mira Mesa used a balanced offensive attack to take down No. 9 Christian, 34-16.
No. 4 La Jolla came from behind to beat No. 5 Valley Center, 27-22.
No. 6 Rancho Bernardo survived another nail-biter, beating No. 3 Poway, 17-14.
No. 2 Scripps Ranch shutdown No. 10 Central, winning 27-7.
DIVISION 3 (BRACKET)
No. 1 Mt. Carmel had no trouble with No. 8 Santana, beating the Sultans 34-10. Cayden Gent passed for 247 yards and two touchdowns.
No. 4 Ramona made a statement against No. 5 West Hills, defeating the previously unbeaten Wolf Pack, 52-0.
No. 2 Mater Dei Catholic led No. 7 El Capitan 41-0 at halftime on their way to a 55-0 shutout.
No. 3 Santa Fe Christian emerged with a tight 38-35 victory over No. 6 Brawley.
DIVISION 4 (BRACKET)
No. 1 Patrick Henry used a four-touchdown third quarter to beat No. 8 La Jolla Country Day, 64-28.
No. 4 Del Norte scored four touchdowns in the second quarter on their way to a 49-14 win over No. 5 Rancho Buena Vista.
No. 3 Coronado shutout No. 6 Sweetwater, 15-0, a week after the Red Devils scored 73 points.
No. 2 University City beat No. 7 Montgomery, 35-8.
DIVISION 5 (BRACKET)
No. 1 Palo Verde Valley moved on with a 36-14 win over No. 8 Crawford.
No. 4 Fallbrook beat No. 12 San Ysidro, 49-0.
No. 6 Calexico upset No. 3 Holtville, beating the Vikings on the road 14-12.
No. 2 Mission Bay handled No. 10 El Cajon Valley, 35-7.
