From Denton Guyer QB Jackson Arnold (385 yards, 7 total TDs) to Edinburg Vela RB PJ Rivera (380 yards, 3 rushing TDs), several players caught our eye with jaw-dropping performances across the state during the second round of the 2021 Texas high school football playoffs. 

Here’s a look at the top individual performances around the state from the area round of the Texas high school football playoffs for Nov. 18-20.

TOP PERFORMERS IN AREA ROUND OF TEXAS HS FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS (NOV. 18-20):

PASSING STARS

Joshua Thomas, Longview QB

Thomas threw for 122 yards and a touchdown on 9-of-16 passing in a 34-14 win against Lancaster. He also ran 13 times for 141 yards and three rushing touchdowns.

Cardell Williams, Spring Westfield QB

In Friday’s game against Klein Oak, Williams was 18-of-30 passing for 273 yards and two TD throws and also ran for 48 yards and a rushing touchdown on eight carries in a 34-14 win.

Nash Villegas, Corpus Christi Flour Bluff QB

Villegas threw for 247 yards and three TDs on 16-of-25 passing and also ran for 79 yards and two rushing scores on 11 carries to help Flour Bluff rout Eagle Pass Winn 47-7.

Jackson Arnold, Denton Guyer QB

Arnold threw for 351 yards and five touchdowns on 14-of-18 passing in a 56-7 win against Dallas Jesuit. He also ran five times for 34 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Harrison Rosar, Prosper QB

Rosar threw for 234 yards and two touchdowns on 10-of-12 passing in a 58-13 win against Grand Prairie. He also ran five times for 25 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Andrew Martinez, El Paso Eastwood QB

Friday’s game against Fort Worth Boswell saw Martinez account for all four of his team’s touchdowns after completing 23 of 39 passes for 215 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-21 victory. He also ran for 23 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries to help Eastwood become the last West Texas team standing in the 6A DII playoffs.

Conner Weigman, Cypress Bridgeland QB

In Friday’s game against The Woodlands College Park, Weigman went 19-of-33 passing for 206 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-28 win. He also ran 14 times for 96 yards and a rushing score.

Bert Emmanuel Jr, Fort Bend Ridge Point QB

In Friday’s game against Cy-Fair, Emmanuel was 8-of-20 passing for 118 yards and ran for 155 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries in a 41-20 win.

Cade Klubnik, Austin Westlake QB

Klubnik completed 13 of 17 passes for 246 yards and three TDs in a 70-7 win over New Braunfels on Friday. He also ran for 53 yards and two rushing scores on seven carries.

Bo Edmundson, Lake Travis QB

Kuhlmann went 19-of-26 for 279 yards and four passing TDs in a 56-14 victory over San Antonio East Central on Friday.

Brayden Buchanan, Austin Vandegrift QB

Buchanan was 18-of-26 passing for 237 yards and four TDs in a 37-0 win over previously unbeaten Cibolo Steele. He also ran for 25 yards and two rushing scores on four carries.

RUSHING STARS

PJ Rivera, Edinburg Vela RB

Rivera carried the ball 42 times for 380 yards and three rushing touchdowns in a 27-24 win over San Antonio Taft to help Vela remain undefeated. (Rivera pictured in feature photo above by Clara Sandoval)

Zach Evans, Rockwall Heath RB

Evans ran 37 times for 200 yards and a pair of rushing TDs in Heath’s 45-33 win against Temple on Friday.

Jarvis Reed, Mansfield Timberview RB

Reed rushed for 175 yards and two TDs on 31 carries to help Mansfield Timberview stun previously unbeaten Ennis with a 42-21 win on Friday.

De’Monte Seymore, Manvel RB

Seymore ran for a career-high 381 yards and matched a season high with four rushing scores on 38 carries in Manvel’s 41-31 win against Pflugerville Weiss.

Malachi Medlock, Duncanville RB

Medlock toted the ball 19 times for 112 yards and three rushing TDs in Duncanville’s 52-2 victory over Mesquite.

Jeremy Payne, Fort Bend Hightower RB

In a 45-29 victory against Georgetown, Payne rushed nine times for 97 yards and three touchdown runs.

Owen Allen, Southlake Carroll RB

Allen ran for 247 yards and four rushing TDs on 29 carries in Southlake’s 42-7 win against Midland Legacy on Saturday.

Chris Henley Jr, DeSoto RB

Henley rushed 36 times for 232 yards and four rushing TDs and caught a 15-yard pass in DeSoto’s 49-28 win over Rockwall on Saturday.

Ryan Williams, Aledo RB

Williams toted the ball 12 times for 131 yards and three touchdowns in Aledo’s 57-14 victory over Frisco Liberty.

Keshun Thomas, College Station A&M Consolidated RB

Thomas rushed for 146 yards and three TDs on 23 carries in a 41-35 win against Barbers Hill. He also caught two passes for 13 receiving yards.

Qualon Farrar, South Oak Cliff RB

Farrar rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries in a 35-24 victory against Frisco on Thursday.

Jalen Washington, Montgomery RB

Montgomery ran the ball 28 times for 317 yards and four touchdowns in a 49-42 loss to Port Neches-Groves.

Caleb Blocker, Katy Tompkins RB

Blocker ran 22 times for 197 yards and two TDs in Tompkins’ 42-14 win against Jersey Village on Friday night.

Eziyah Bland, Refugio RB

Bland carried the ball 17 times for 174 yards and five touchdowns in Refugio’s 69-20 blowout win over Flatonia.

Jaylen Jenkins, Allen RB

Jenkins ran for 181 yards and two rushing scores on 18 carries in Allen’s 49-24 win over Lake Highlands.

Damian Martinez, Lewisville RB

Martinez rushed 23 times for 239 yards and three touchdowns on the ground in a 35-18 victory against Arlington Martin.

Owen Allen, Southlake Carroll RB

Allen tallied 129 yards and three rushing touchdowns on 28 carries and snagged a 13-yard reception in Carroll’s 42-20 win over North Crowley on Friday night.

Ollie Gordon, Euless Trinity RB

Gordon rushed 26 times for 254 yards and two rushing TDs in Trinity’s 28-17 comeback victory against Odessa Permian.

Marquise Collins, College Station RB

In a 55-21 victory against Frisco Lone Star to help College Station stay undefeated, Collins set a school record by running for 304 yards and six rushing TDs on 32 carries.

Noah Long, Liberty Hill RB

Long ran for 240 yards and two rushing TDs on 26 carries in Liberty Hill’s 51-14 win against Boerne Champion.

Jerrell Wimbley, Houston C.E. King RB

Wimbley exploded for 312 yards and five rushing touchdowns in King’s 52-34 win over Alvin Shadow Creek.

Jack Lugo, PSJA North RB

Lugo ran 12 times for 190 yards and two rushing TDs in a 56-28 win against Eagle Pass on Friday night.

Keon Hobbs, Mansfield Summit RB

Hobbs ran for 157 yards and two rushing scores on 11 carries in a 56-7 win over El Paso Chapin.

Quincy Jones, Crosby RB

Jones toted the ball 24 times for 211 yards and four rushing TDs in a 52-14 victory against Marshall. He also caught three passes for 60 receiving yards.

Max Alaniz-Choy, McAllen Memorial RB

Alaniz-Choy ran for 119 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries in Memorial’s 42-20 victory over San Antonio Lanier on Saturday.

Noah Camacho, Austin Bowie RB

Camacho ran for 198 yards and two rushing TDs on 27 carries in a 28-21 win over Smithson Valley.

Kutter Wilson, Brock RB

Wilson rushed 22 times for 254 yards and three rushing TDs in Brock’s 40-6 win over Wall on Thursday.

Rueben Owens, El Campo RB

Owens was virtually unstoppable Friday night running for 324 yards and four rushing scores on 36 carries and caught a 38-yard pass in a 56-42 win over Lindale.

Riley Pechacek, Boerne RB

Pechacek rushed for 173 yards and three TDs on 20 carries in Boerne’s 63-14 blowout win against Corpus Christi Miller.

Kaiden Roden, Quinlan Ford RB/LB

Roden ran for 100 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries in Quinlan Ford’s 35-34 win against Pittsburgh. He also recorded 24 tackles and two TFLs defensively as well three pancakes as a blocker.

RECEIVING STARS

Matthew Golden, Klein Cain WR

In his final high school game, Golden exploded by catching seven passes for 265 yards and three receiving TDs in a 56-53 loss to Spring.

Landry Sides, Denton Guyer WR

Sides caught three passes for 127 yards and a trio of receiving TDs in a 56-7 win over Dallas Jesuit on Friday.

David Amador, Galena Park North Shore WR

Amador snagged seven receptions for 119 yards and a touchdown in a 41-13 win over League City Clear Springs.

Ross Dubose, Gregory-Portland WR

Dubose recorded eight receptions for 106 yards and three touchdowns in a 55-13 win against San Antonio Southwest Legacy on Thursday.

Michael Davis, Denton Ryan WR

Davis caught six passes for 105 receiving yards and a touchdown in Ryan’s 28-20 victory over Magnolia West.

Parker Polk, Grapevine WR

Polk tallied five catches for 168 yards and three receiving TDs in a 71-34 victory against Clint Horizon.

Landon Ransom-Goelz, Trophy Club Byron Nelson WR

Ransom-Goelz caught four receptions for 129 yards and two touchdowns in a 63-14 victory over El Paso Eastlake.

Jalen Becerra, Leander Rouse WR

Becerra hauled in six passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns in a 59-19 rout against Floresville.
