SBLive’s San Diego Section Top 10 Boys Basketball Rankings: Carlsbad returns at No. 9
Carlsbad reentered the top 10 of SBLive’s San Diego Section Boys Basketball rankings after a 4-1 record during the winter break that included an 87-72 win over Santa Fe Christian in the 3rd place game of The Holiday Classic's Senator Division. The Lancers now sit at 9-7 as they head into the second half of the season.
SBLive’s San Diego Section high school boys basketball rankings are compiled by SBLive California reporter Bodie DeSilva and will be released every Monday throughout the winter 2021-22 season.

1. St. Augustine (9-6)
The Saints were hit hard by COVID-19 protocol, playing without several starters in all three of their games in the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic. They lost to Northgate and Grossmont while beating Mira Costa on day two.

2. San Marcos (8-3)
The Knights were forced to withdraw from the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic due to COVID-19 protocol. They'll get back on the floor January 12th against Poway.

3. San Ysidro (8-5)
The Cougars beat No. 4 Torrey Pines in the Holiday Classic tip-off night and went 1-2 in tournament play, beating St. Mary's (Arizona) on day three. Senior Sebastian Medina was named to the all-tournament team.

4. Torrey Pines (10-4)
The Falcons lost to No. 3 San Ysidro, Bishop Gorman (Nevada), and St. Mary's (Arizona) in consecutive order before taking down Coronado and Poway to finish up the tournament.

5. Mission Hills (10-5)
Mission Hills went 4-0 to win the American Division of the Holiday Classic. The Grizzlies took down No. 6 La Costa Canyon in overtime in round two and beat Camas (Washington) in the championship game. Senior forward Justin White had a huge week for Mission Hills, averaging 20 points per game.

6. La Costa Canyon (9-4)
The Mavericks went 3-1 in the American Division of the Holiday Classic despite being shorthanded. Following their overtime loss to No. 5 Mission Hills, they took down No. 8 Cathedral Catholic and No. 10 Scripps Ranch in consecutive days to finish the week.

7. Mission Bay (11-4)
The Buccaneers went 2-2 in the American Division, beating Curtis (Washington) in the third place game after they lost to Curtis on day one. They'll play Otay Ranch on Monday night.

8. Cathedral Catholic(12-5)
The Dons went 2-2 in the American Division, beating Notre Dame Prep (Arizona) and Oak Ridge. They have road games against Christian and San Diego this week.

9. Carlsbad (9-7)
Carlsbad beat Mater Dei Catholic by 25 points in the tip-off night at The Holiday Classic and then went 3-1 in the Senator's Division, beating Santa Fe Christian in the 3rd place game. Freshman Jake Hall was selected to the all-tournament team.

10. Scripps Ranch (12-5)
The Falcons played four close games in The Holiday Classic, losing to No. 6 La Costa Canyon by three points on the final day. They'll play a non-league game against San Diego on Wednesday night.
