The OSAA Executive Board announced two decisions made at last week’s work session that affect state championship meets next month.
The swimming state championships Feb. 18-19 will no longer entail prelims and finals, with the meet changing to a timed final format at Tualatin Hills Swim Center. Class 5A swims Friday evening, Class 6A goes Saturday morning/afternoon and 4A/3A/2A/1A that afternoon and evening.
Spectator limits for that event will be in place, although the facility has not finalized them.
Also, the 6A state wrestling meet will now be a Saturday-Sunday event Feb. 26-27 at Sandy High School. Because the school will be in session on Friday, this will ease the logistical challenges of accessing the facility during the school day.
The Board also announced that it has not made a final decision whether the basketball state tournaments will be held in their current eight-team final-site formats but remains optimistic it can do so. However, it reserves the right to move the quarterfinals to home-school sites, mirroring what took place with the volleyball state tournaments in the fall, with only the semifinals and finals taking place at final sites.
