DUNCANVILLE, Texas - Led by 15 points from senior guard Anthony Black, the Duncanville boys basketball team once again showed why they are one of the nation’s best in a dominant 76-55 victory over DeSoto onTuesday night.

Defense was the name of the game for the Panthers as they held DeSoto (22-8) to just three points in the first quarter and jumped out to a commanding 30-17 halftime lead.

Duncanville head coach David Peavy has made defense a point of emphasis for his team this season and was pleased with their ability to generate stops.

“(The defense) was solid,” said coach Peavy after the game. “We had some breakdowns. I felt like in the second half they got to the rim way too much, they got a lot of layups in the halfcourt situation which is unacceptable. I feel like we’re in a good place right now but we’ve got a lot of room for improvement."

The Panthers, who improved to 23-1 and are ranked No. 3 in the country in the SBLive/SI Power 25, exploded in the third quarter, scoring 26 points and nearly matching their total for the first half.

Black once again led the offensive charge for the Panthers, dishing out a number of noteworthy assists.

Jackson Prince contributed with 12 points, all of which came from behind the three-point line courtesy of strong ball movement from the Panthers.

Black spoke on how he was able to facilitate the offense and find his teammates with ease.

“They were in the zone,” Black said. “Just finding the holes in the zone, trying to get downhill and draw a couple defenders and then just seeing my teammates on the wing.”

Coach Peavy said the Panthers were more focused than their earlier matchup with the Eagles in December.

“We were a lot more locked in,” Peavy said. “Just staying steady and not getting caught up in everything. The crowd, the rivalry. Just staying solid, doing what we do, and just making solid defensive plays.”

Duncanville will play the Midway Panthers on Friday.
