Here are the candidates for the WaFd BankArizona High School Girls Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 14-20 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers.

Sidney Anderson, Freshman, Ironwood Ridge - Rallying the No. 9 Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks to a 54-51 win over the No. 8 Betty H. Fairfax Stampede on Tuesday, Anderson posted 23 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals to help Ironwood Ridge advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinal game on Friday against Flowing Wells, she brought her freshman season to a close with 18 points and eight rebounds in the 56-45 loss. 

Cassandra Coolidge, Sophomore, Sahuaro - Helping Sahuaro to a 54-43 victory over Notre Dame Prep in the first round of the girls 4A playoffs, Coolidge led the game in scoring with 18 points while also snagging seven rebounds, seven assists, two steals and two blocks to help the Cougars advance to the quarterfinals. 

Morgan Escobedo, Junior, Pinnacle - Shooting 71-percent from the field on Wednesday, Escobedo posted 18 points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals and five deflections to help Pinnacle defeat Sandra Day O’Connor 55-36 in the first round of the 6A playoffs. 

Elli Guiney, Sophomore, Millennium - One of the top prospects in the class of 2024, Guiney helped the Millennium Tigers take another step toward the state championships on Tuesday in the 75-53 victory over McClintock. Posting a double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds, she also had two assists, a steal, a block and two deflections to help the Tigers advance to the quarterfinals.

Taliyah Henderson, Freshman, Salpointe Catholic - Henderson carries a huge load for the Lancers as just a freshman, and she does it under pressure with ease. In Wednesday’s 53-9 victory over Pueblo, Henderson led things on the court with 15 points while shooting 71-percent from the field and pulled down seven rebounds. Additionally, she had two assists, two steals and two deflections to help the Lancers reach the 4A quarterfinals on Saturday, where they faced off against Sahuaro. She once again led things in scoring, posting 16 points, along with eight rebounds, three steals and an assist in the 53-39 victory as the quest to return to the championships continue with a semifinal berth.

Navine Mallon, Junior, Flowing Wells -Pushing Flowing Wells to a 54-48 victory over Willow Canyon in the first round of the 5A playoffs, Mallon had a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds, three assists and two deflections to help Flowing Wells reach the quarterfinals. In Friday’s quarterfinal game against Ironwood Ridge, Mallon posted 14 points, nine rebounds and an assist in the 56-45 win. Her performances helped the Caballeros reach the 5A semifinals yet again, as they’ve got their eyes locked and loaded on returning to the final.

Mia Martinez, Junior, Willow Canyon - Closing her junior year with a career-high of 20 points on Tuesday, Martinez helped the Wildcats give the Flowing Wells Caballeros a bit of a scare in the 54-48 loss in Round One of the playoffs. In addition, she had three rebounds, two assists, three steals, a block and three deflections on the night.

Sarah Miller, Sophomore, Xavier College Prep - One of the other top prospects in the loaded class of 2024 players, Miller’s consistently been toward the top this season and things were no different on Wednesday in the Gators’ 68-35 win over Chandler in the first round of the 6A playoffs. With 25 points, three steals, three deflections and an assist, Miller dominated the game in scoring. 

Nayeli Nidez-Acuna, Sophomore, Sunnyside - Bringing her sophomore season to a close on Tuesday in the 40-34 loss to Gilbert in the first round of the 5A playoffs, Nidez-Acuna wrapped things up with 15 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double, along with four steals and two blocks for the Sunnyside Blue Devils. 

Aiyanna Perkins, Freshman, McClintock - While McClintock’s season came to a close on Tuesday in the 75-53 loss to Millennium, Perkins showed on the big stage why she’s the real deal for the Chargers. Leading the team in scoring, Perkins dropped 23 points alongside three rebounds, two assists and a steal, showing she’s the spark plug the Chargers have been patiently waiting for. 

Autumn Rodriguez, Junior, Chandler - Although her season came to a close on Wednesday in the 68-35 loss to Xavier College Prep, Rodriguez still led her team in scoring with 14 points. In addition, she had five rebounds, an assist and a steal as she prepares to move into one of the main roles for the Wolves next season. 

Kiley Sours-Miller, Junior, Greenway -Helping No. 13 Greenway to a 53-48 victory over No. 4 Mesquite on Wednesday in the first round of the 4A playoffs, Sours-Miller led the game in scoring with 15 points. She also was crashing the boards, picking up 18 rebounds for a double-double, along with two assists and a steal to help Greenway reach the 4A quarterfinals.

Nakyah Williams, Sophomore, Paradise Honors - Triple-doubles are rare to begin with, but to put stats up like that in the playoffs is a true testament to one’s strengths. Williams did just that on Wednesday in Paradise Honors’ 82-57 victory over Saguaro, posting 29 points, 10 rebounds, 13 assists, five steals and four deflections for an absolutely loaded performance, helping the Panthers reach the 4A quarterfinals.
