Nationally ranked Chandler falls to Centennial in Arizona high school football showdown

No. 20 Chandler nearly pulled off a memorable comeback in a one-point loss to undefeated Centennial

Sound the alarm for another Power 25 upset.

In a contest billed as the biggest high school football game in Arizona and one of the best matchups in the country this week, Centennial handed nationally-ranked Chandler its first loss of the season.

Chandler, which entered the game at No. 20 in the SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25 national rankings, lost 29-28 to Centennial on Friday after falling behind by 26 points in the first half.

The Wolves (6-1) kept fighting until the final seconds and nearly pulled off a comeback for the ages, but Centennial (7-0) held on to remain undefeated.

Centennial jumped out to a 26-0 lead in the first half, but Chandler owned most of the second half.

Chandler quarterback Blake Heffron kept it himself for a short touchdown, and a two-point conversion from Heffron to Jaxon Branch made the score 29-28 with 2:44 remaining.

Centennial's offense was able to run out the clock in victory formation, as the Coyotes picked up a Power 25 upset.

Chandler entered the national rankings after taking down then-No. 24 Orange Lutheran (California) to improve to 3-0.

The Wolves improved to 6-0 last week with a 49-28 victory against Casteel (Arizona).
