Montverde Academy boys basketball beats Oak Cliff Faith Family at Thanksgiving Hoopfest

No. 1 Montverde (Florida) overpowered No. 25 Oak Cliff Faith Family (Texas) in an early season battle of top 25 teams

The top-ranked high school boys basketball team in the country is off to a hot start in the 2023-24 season.

Montverde Academy (Florida), which opened the season at No. 1 in the SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25 national rankings, overpowered No. 25 Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy (Texas), 86-49, at Thanksgiving Hoopfest in the Dallas area on Friday night.

Five-star senior Derik Queen paced Montverde with 20 points and six rebounds. Duke commit Cooper Flagg, the nation’s top-ranked recruit, finished with eight points, three rebounds and four steals.

Isaac Williams (24 points) and Colorado commit Doryan Onwuchekwa (17 points) combined to score 41 of Oak Cliff Faith Family’s 49 points.

Montverde (3-0) tipped off the season earlier this week in Utah with wins over No. 10 Wasatch Academy and American Fork.

Oak Cliff Faith Family (4-3) has stumbled out of the gates early this season, taking losses to in-state opponents Lancaster and iSchool of Lewisville before falling to national juggernaut Montverde.
