Cooper Flagg, Montverde to headline Chipotle Nationals high school basketball tournament

Nation's top-ranked team named No. 1 seed; tournament formerly known as GEICO Nationals releases 2024 field

For the second year in a row, Montverde Academy (Florida) has earned the top seed for Chipotle Nationals, the high school basketball tournament formerly known as GEICO Nationals.

The tournament will be played Apr. 4-6 in Brownsburg, Indiana, and to no one’s surprise, Cooper Flagg and the Eagles earned the No. 1 seed after a perfect regular season in which they went wire to wire as the top-ranked team in the SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25 national rankings.

Overall, seven of the eight teams competing in the tournament are ranked in the top 10 by SBLive/SI, with No. 12 IMG Academy (Florida) being the lowest ranked team in the field. Also making the trip to Indiana are No. 2 Columbus (Florida), No. 3 St. Paul VI (Virginia), No. 4 Long Island Lutheran (New York), No. 5 Prolific Prep (California), No. 6 Link Academy (Missouri) and No. 10 AZ Compass Prep (Arizona).

It’s a familiar group of teams for the tournament, with Columbus being the only one that didn’t compete at last year’s event, which Link Academy won.

All of the Chipotle Nationals games will be televised by ESPN.

Montverde senior and MAIT tournament MVP Cooper Flagg scores two of his 17 points during the championship game Saturday against Prolific Prep.
