Michigan player sinks game-winning 3-pointer at buzzer in MHSAA boys basketball state semifinals (video)
Arkell Boyd called game.
Down one, the junior guard received a baseline inbound with about two seconds left and hit a catch-and-shoot 3-pointer as time expired to lift Old Redford past Gabriel Richard in the MHSAA Division 3 state semifinals on Thursday afternoon.
The 43-41 win at Michigan State's Breslin Center in East Lansing advanced the Ravens (21-8) to the state championship on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. — the first appearance in program history. They will face Brandywine, which beat McBain 51-48.
Kason Mayes hit his first of two free throws to pull Old Redford within one, 41-40, with 3.3 seconds left. He missed the second free throw, and officials determined the ball last touched a Riverview Gabriel Richard player before going out of bounds, which set up the final look.
Boyd, who finished the game with 15 points, released the shot falling down in the corner and was mobbed by teammates in celebration as soon as the ball went in.
