In Greater Catholic League play on Friday night, Elder picked up a 32-31 overtime win over St. Xavier.

Elder, the No. 22 team in this week’s SBLive Ohio Power 25, trailed 31-24 after St. Xavier got the ball to start overtime and scored a touchdown and kicked an extra point.

The Panthers then took their possession and found the end zone when quarterback Ryan Brass scored from nine yards out. But instead of going for the extra point and the tie, Edler went for the win.

The gamble paid off when Brass ran the ball into the end zone again for the game-winning 2-point conversion.

Overtime wasn't the only drama between the two Greater Catholic League - South teams Friday night.

St. Xavier led 21-17 in the final minutes, but the Panthers went 80 yards and took the lead when Brass scored with 42 seconds remaining. But the Bombers answered with a 41-yard field goal by Joe Roth in the closing seconds to tie the game.

Brass led the Panthers offense by throwing for 239 yards and a pair of touchdowns and running for 128 yards and two more scores.

The win moves Elder to 4-2 overall, 1-0 in the GCL, while St. Xavier drops to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
