Ohio high school football playoffs roundup: St. Edward, Massillon, Marion Local among winners in state semifinals (11/17/2023)

The Ohio high school football state championship games will be held Nov. 30 - Dec. 2 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium

The Ohio High School Athletic Association playoffs continued Friday night with 28 teams trying to punch their ticket to Canton for the state championship games.

Four state champions from 2022 - St. Edward (Division I), Toledo Central Catholic (won in Division I last season, in Division III this season), Glenville (Division IV) and Marion Local (won in Division VI last season, in Division VII this season) - booked a return trip to Canton on Friday night. 

Meanwhile, a pair of teams who lost in the state championship game last season - Archbishop Hoban (Division II) and Kirtland (Division IV) - are back once again to try to hoist that championship trophy.

In Division I, St. Edward will try to win its third straight state title and will face Springfield for the third straight year.

Division II will see Hoban take on Massillon for the fifth time in six years in the playoffs, with Hoban holding a 3-1 advantage, including 2-0 in state championship games.

In Division III, it will be last year's Division II state champion Toledo Central Catholic against Bishop Watterson

Division IV has Glenville looking for a repeat when the Tarblooders face Kettering Archbishop Alter.

Division V will have a battle of undefeateds as Perry faces Liberty Center.

Division VI will crown a new champion as Kirtland takes on Versailles.

In Division VII, Maria Stein Marion Local will look to win its third straight state championship and its 10th in 13 years as the Flyers face Dalton.
