Ohio high school boys basketball: Meet the state’s best combo guards for the 2023-24 season
With fall sports in the rearview mirror, the high school basketball season is finally here.
SBLive Sports is highlighting some of the best players in Ohio heading into the winter season.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be taking a position-by-position look at some of the best of the best in high school boys basketball. We started with point guards and are now moving on to combo guards.
Here are 20 of the best all-around guards in Ohio entering the 2023-24 high school boys basketball season.

Reggie Bagley, Whitehall-Yearling, junior
This 6-foot-5 standout averaged 21 points, three assists and two steals while earning first-team all-district and special mention all-state in Division II last season.
Landon Brewer, Antwerp, senior
Antwerp was a Division IV district runner-up last season when the 6-foot-4 Brewer led the way by averaging 21 points and earning third-team all-state honors.
Jayden Crutcher, Elyria, junior
The 6-foot-5 Crutcher earned honorable mention all-state honors in Division I last season when he averaged 17.5 points.
J.P. Dragas, Madison, senior
Heading into his final prep season, the 6-foot-1 Dragas already had scored a program-record 1,329 career points. He averaged 27.1 points last season while earning first-team all-state honors in Division II.
Wes Enis, Miami East, senior
Enis is a 6-footer who averaged 21.5 points and was first-team all-state in Division III last season while helping the Vikings reach a regional semifinal.
Zevin Gadson, Buchtel, senior
After playing his first two seasons at Buchtel, the 6-foot-3 Gadson lived in Arizona at the beginning of his junior season before transferring back to close the season with the Griffins. He averaged 22.8 points and seven rebounds over the final nine games last winter.
R.J. Greer, Archbishop Alter, junior
After averaging 15.3 points as a freshman for Springboro, Greer played in only three games for the Panthers before missing the rest of last season with injuries. He transferred to Alter in the offseason and has offers from a list of schools that includes Florida, Michigan, Penn State and Pittsburgh.
Dorian Jones, Richmond Heights, junior
Jones scored 25 points in last year’s Division IV state championship game to help the Spartans win their second consecutive title. Listed at 6-foot-5, Jones averaged 20 points and was last year’s state Player of the Year. He has offers from a list of schools that includes Arizona State, Ohio State and Syracuse.
Quinn Kwasniak, Cornerstone Christian, junior
Kwasniak averaged 29.5 points last season while helping Cornerstone Christian reach a Division IV regional semifinal.
Jayson Levis, Rocky River Lutheran West, senior
Levis, a 6-footer who has been offered by Walsh, averaged 18.1 points while earning second-team all-state honors in Division II last season as the Longhorns were state runners-up.
Ja'Corey Lipkins, Canton GlenOak, senior
The 6-foot-1 Lipkins, who has been offered by Youngstown State, averaged 15 points and earned honorable mention all-state honors in Division I while leading GlenOak to an 18-7 finish and the Federal League title last season.
Caleb Lovely, South Point, senior
Standing at 6-foot-3, Lovely entered this season having already scored more than 1,000 career points. He averaged 25 points and was first-team all-state in Division III last season.
Carter Mallernee, Northridge, senior
The 6-foot-4 Mallernee was third-team all-state in Division III last season when he averaged 20.5 points and 2.5 assists and shot 42 percent from 3-point range.
Kruz McClure, Westerville South, junior
One of central Ohio’s top returning players is the 6-foot-2 McClure, who averaged 17 points while receiving special mention all-state recognition in Division I last season.
Jonas Nichols, Archbishop Hoban, senior
A Kent State commit, Nichols helped the Knights earn the Division I state title last season when he averaged 16 points and 5.6 rebounds and shot 80 percent from the free-throw line. He already has scored more than 1,000 career points.
Jonathan Powell, Centerville, senior
Among the top players in the 2024 class is this 6-foot-5 standout who has committed to play for Xavier. Powell was first-team all-state in Division I last season when he averaged 16.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists as the Elks were state semifinalists.
Luke Sanders, Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, junior
Sanders, who is 6-foot-3, averaged 24.9 points and was honorable mention all-state in Division II last season. He scored his 1,000th career point earlier this season.
Antoine West, Toledo Whitmer, junior
Last season, the 6-foot-3 West was first-team all-state in Division I while averaging 21.5 points. He has offers from a list of colleges that includes Arizona State, Duquesne and Georgia.
Colin White, Ottawa-Glandorf, senior
An Ohio State commit, the 6-foot-5 White averaged 21.1 points last season while earning first-team all-state honors in Division III as the Titans were state runners-up.
Demarris Winters, Richmond Heights, junior
Another talented member of the Spartans’ defending state championship team, the 6-foot-2 Winters averaged 14 points and made 75 3-pointers last season. He was honorable mention all-state in Division IV.
