Bixby pulls away in second half to defeat Jenks, finishes perfect regular season
Last season, Jenks denied Bixby a perfect regular season while breaking the Spartans' record 58-game winning streak.
Behind the combination of Carson Kirby and Blake Hogshooter, the Spartans made sure a repeat performance didn't happen on Friday.
Kirby, the Spartans' quarterback, threw three second-half touchdown passes, all going to Hogshooter, as Bixby - which trailed 14-7 at halftime, took over in the second half as the Spartans go into the playoffs 10-0 after a 31-14 win against the Trojans at Allan Trimble Stadium.
Bixby (10-0, 7-0 6AI-1) tied the score at 14-all midway through the third quarter on Kirby's first TD strike to Hogshooter, which covered 14 yards. Later that quarter, the Spartans took their first lead of the night, 17-14, on Troy Nguyen's 35-yard field goal.
The Spartans then extended their lead in the final quarter on two more TD passes from Kirby to Hogshooter, covering 42 and 36 yards, the latter coming with more than five minutes remaining.
Last season, Jenks upended Bixby in the regular season finale, though the Spartans avenged that defeat with a win in the 6AI semifinals en route to claiming the 6AI title.
The Trojans (6-4, 5-2) had another outstanding start on Friday, taking an early 7-0 lead on a 31-yard TD pass from Owen Jones to Khy Beaty. Bixby evened the score later in the first quarter on a 3-yard TD run by Jett Turner.
Jenks regained the lead, 14-7, on a 36-yard TD run by Kaydin Jones with 3:22 left in the first half.
