Oklahoma high school boys basketball Top 25 rankings (2/1/2024)

Huge game on deck between No. 2 Owasso and No. 4 Tulsa Union

Heading into February means the playoffs are starting soon for Oklahoma high school boys basketball.

Many teams continue to win and some will play each other before the playoffs. Tulsa Union and Owasso square off Friday night in what could decide a district championship.

Here is this week’s SBLive Oklahoma Top 25 boys basketball rankings.

Note: Rankings and records are through Jan. 31.

1. Edmond North (13-2); last week (1)

The Huskies passed two tough road tests, beating Edmond Deer Creek, 59-52, and Norman North, 47-43. Edmond North will get every team's best shot, but their schedule does get a little easier. Friday, they play at Mustang, but return home after a four-game road trip and tournament. The Huskies host a down OKC Putnam City North team Tuesday.

2. Owasso (15-2); last week (2)

Owasso keeps winning just like the Huskies do, but their head-to-head loss against the Huskies in the Tournament of Champions keeps them ranked at 2. Tuesday, they won at Edmond Memorial, 52-44, as Jalen Montonati scored 20 points. Owasso will play at Tulsa Union Friday in a huge game and hosts Putnam City next Tuesday. A win over Union likely secures a district title.

3. Dale (20-2); last week (3)

Dale has a tough schedule coming up ahead, but they know how to win. Denton Forsythe, the brother of OU-bound Dayton, received an offer from Indiana State University over the weekend. The Pirates beat Oklahoma Christian Academy, 92-47, and Christian Heritage Academy, 83-45. Dale will play Vanoss, who is ranked 12th in Class 2A, on Friday.

4. Tulsa Union (16-2) last week: (4)

The Redhawks have now won 10 games in a row and held off a feisty Enid team on Saturday, winning 68-63, as Miles Flemmons made big plays. Union responded at home against a winless U.S. Grant team Tuesday by winning, 69-20. Union has a massive game Friday at home against Owasso, a team who beat Union earlier in the season.

5. OKC Crossings Christian (13-4); last week (5)

The Knights have played a brutal schedule their past two games, hosting Oklahoma Christian School and winning, 67-56, in a packed gym. Cal Furnish lit it up and scored 18 points in the first half. Despite that win on Jan. 26, they suffered a 55-53 loss to El Reno, but hold the fifth spot because of a brutal schedule and tough district. Crossings returns to action Friday when they host Shawnee.

6. Weatherford (18-1); last week (7)

Weatherford keeps adding W’s to their record, with their lone loss coming to OKC Crossings Christian in the Tournament of Champions. The Eagles have won all of their games by double digits since that loss. Weatherford beat Newcastle, 57-38, and Kingfisher, 67-27. The Eagles return to their nest for a while, as they host Tuttle Friday and Bethany next week.

7. Edmond Deer Creek (15-4) last week; (6)

The Antlers dropped one in the rankings, as they lost to Edmond North and needed overtime to beat a struggling Putnam City North team. But Deer Creek woke up in overtime, winning by double digits. Deer Creek’s schedule gets tougher, as the Antlers travel to Moore Friday in a huge district matchup, as Deer Creek has a one-game lead in the district standings.

8. Choctaw (14-4); last week (9)

The Yellowjackets are sitting in first place in their jumbled up district, despite losing to Jenks, 52-49. But the Yellowjackets beat Broken Arrow, 55-53, in overtime to make up for it. Not much separates these three teams and Bixby, but Choctaw will play Bixby Friday. Ja'Mon Valentine received an offer to play at Seminole State College last week.

9. Midwest City Carl Albert (13-4); last week (10)

Carl Albert picked up a 74-52 road win at Elgin to remain third in its district, behind Guthrie and OKC Crossings Christian. Both these teams have beaten Carl Albert. The Titans will travel to Guthrie Friday looking for revenge.

10. Edmond Memorial (11-6); last week: (8)

Despite losing to Class 6A heavyweights Edmond North, Tulsa Union and Owasso recently, the Bulldogs still are a talented squad who could play spoiler in the playoffs. A district title is likely out of the question, but they have a chance to fine-tune their game, as they travel to U.S. Grant this Friday.

11. Midwest City (16-3); last week (12)

The Bombers hung 100 points on Santa Fe South last week and beat Noble, 72-49. The Bombers are in the driver's seat of winning their district, as they have a four-game cushion. This Friday, Midwest City goes to Del City, who is on a seven-game winning streak.

12. Tulsa Booker T. Washington (14-1); last week (14)

The Hornets are in the midst of a seven-game road trip and beat East Central and Grove both by more than 20 points. Booker T. Washington travels to Tahlequah Thursday, Claremore Friday and Collinsville next week.

13. OKC Douglass (12-3); last week (15)

Douglass picked up a huge road won over Star Spencer 86-54 last week. The Trojans got some more good news earlier this week when Jaden Nickens - the transfer from crosstown rival Millwood - was ruled eligible to play for his new team as his hardship waiver was approved by the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association. He is expected to play on Friday, as Douglass hosts Tulsa Victory Christian.

14. Bixby (12-7); last week (14)

Bixby beat Broken Arrow, not once, but twice in the last two weeks. They also beat up on a struggling Ponca City team, 74-57, but lost to Southmoore. The Spartans have gained two tough road games, as they travel to Choctaw Friday and to Stillwater next week.

15. Broken Arrow (13-6); last week (11)

Broken Arrow is coming off a heartbreaking overtime loss to Choctaw and also suffered a 59-55 loss to Bixby. But they did beat Muskogee last week. The Tigers have a chance to regroup, as they host Ponca City, but then travel to Southmoore next week.

16. Jenks (12-6); last week (13)

Jenks lost by double digits to Muskogee Tuesday, but defeated Choctaw by three points last weekend. Jenks does have two winnable games coming up, as they host Stillwater Friday, then travel to Ponca City next week.

17. Tulsa Holland Hall (15-3); last week (18)

Holland Hall defeated Tulsa Memorial, but Tulsa Memorial is currently in a slump. The Dutch lost to Edison Prep two days after, but responded by beating Sapulpa and Coweta. Holland Hall returns to the floor when they host Tulsa Will Rogers Friday.

18. Pocola (18-0); last week (22)

19. Calumet (24-0); last week (23)
