Oklahoma high school girls basketball Top 25 rankings (2/1/2024)

Top 5 remains intact, Tahlequah up to No. 6, several new teams enter the list

Unlike the previous week's SBLive Oklahoma girls basketball Top 25, there was no massive movement at the top.

In fact, the top five from last week remain intact, with the first move being Tahlequah going up one spot to No. 6.

However, there was still a lot of movement in the list from the past few days, and several new teams have entered this week's rankings.

Who are these new teams to the rankings? Keep reading to find out.

1. El Reno (19-0); last week (1)

The Lady Indians keep on rolling, though one of their recent wins actually finished in single digits. Shawnee made things interesting, but in the end, El Reno prevailed, 39-30. El Reno is back on the court this Friday to face Elgin.

2. Choctaw (17-0); last week (2)

Choctaw went on the road on consecutive nights and handily took care of business against Stillwater (58-33) and Jenks (66-41). The Lady Yellowjackets then returned home on Jan. 30 and survived a tight battle with Broken Arrow, winning 48-46. Friday, they're at home again to take on a red-hot Bixby squad.

3. Bethany (15-4); last week (3)

The Lady Bronchos continue to hit their stride as the calendar turns to February. They scored 87 against Elk City, 81 against Newcastle and 97 against Cache, all decisive wins. Friday, they play at fellow 4A contender Anadarko, a team Bethany doubled up on a couple weeks ago, winning 64-32 in the title game of the Heart of Oklahoma Tournament.

4. Putnam City West (17-1); last week (4)

After being stunned by Edmond Santa Fe last week, the Lady Patriots are back on the winning track, including a 57-35 win against a solid Yukon squad. Friday, PC West has a home game against Lawton.

5. Edmond North (14-1); last week (5)

Likewise, the Lady Huskies have found a new gear since their loss to PC West in the title game of the Jenks/Union Invitational. After a huge bounce-back win against crosstown rival Edmond Memorial, North scored at least 80 points in decisive wins against Edmond Deer Creek and Norman North. A tricky road test awaits the Lady Huskies on Friday, a game against Mustang.

6. Tahlequah (17-1); last week (7)

It's now 10 wins and counting for the Lady Tigers following an 84-35 win against Pryor on Jan. 30. Four nights earlier, they survived a scare from Grove before prevailing, 47-40. Tahlequah has its final regular-season home game on Feb. 1 against Tulsa Booker T. Washington before going on the road for its final four regular-season contests.

7. Idabel (18-1); last week (8)

The Class 3A contenders are coming off a pair of wins against 4A foes, including 74-55 against a highly ranked Stilwell squad on Jan. 27. Then on Jan. 30, the Lady Warriors downed traditional rival Broken Bow, 71-30. Friday, they travel to face KIPP Tulsa before going back home for their final two regular-season tilts.

8. Lincoln Christian (16-3); last week (6)

Lincoln had minimal trouble in wins against Cascia Hall and Rejoice Christian, but on Jan. 30, the Lady Bulldogs lost by one, 50-49, to a very good Glenpool squad. They return home on Friday to face Metro Christian.

9. Edmond Memorial (14-3); last week (11)

In what should be an interesting race in Class 6A, with contenders galore, don't count out the Lady Bulldogs. They are coming off a hard-fought 48-40 win against Owasso, another 6A team with aspirations for state. This Friday, they're on the road to take on U.S. Grant.

10. Dale (21-1); last week (10)

Following its road loss at Oklahoma City Millwood last week, the Lady Pirates put up 85 points against Oklahoma Christian Academy and 70 more on Christian Heritage Academy, both decisive wins. They don't play again until Feb. 6, a game against Vanoss.

11. Midwest City (15-3); last week (12)

The Lady Bombers hit the century mark on Jan. 30 with a 103-41 win against Oklahoma City John Marshall. In that game, De'Yanna Douglas scored 21 points, including the 1,000th point in her career. Friday, they travel to their arch-rivals, Del City.

12. Washington (16-3); last week (9)

The Lady Warriors dropped two straight games to a pair of very formidable squads, 56-39 to 4A contender Classen SAS and 62-46 to 2A contender Riverside. They seek to bounce back on Friday against Pauls Valley.

13. Midwest City Carl Albert (14-4); last week (16)

Carl Albert had to wait a full week before attempting to snap a two-game losing skid. The Lady Titans finally got back in the win column on Jan. 30, holding off Elgin on the road, 66-60. They're on the road again Friday to face Guthrie before finishing the regular season with four straight at home.

14. Glenpool (15-2); last week (24)

The Lady Warriors made a huge jump from last week, moving up 10 spots into the Top 15. One reason for that was their 50-49 win on Jan. 30 against fellow 4A contender Lincoln Christian. They are on the road on consecutive nights, heading to Bishop McGuinness on Friday before going to Ardmore on Saturday.

15. Sapulpa (13-5); last week (13)

Sapulpa dropped a 48-46 decision to Tulsa Rogers before coming back with resounding wins against Holland Hall (86-34) and Durant (60-39). Friday, the Lady Chieftains travel to take on Coweta.

16. Riverside (18-2); last week not ranked

The first of the new teams making its debut this week. Last season, the Lady Braves made history by winning their first-ever state tournament game en route to reaching the Class A semifinals. This season, they're a bona-fide contender in 2A and have currently won 10 straight games, capped by wins against defending Class A champion Seiling (59-41) and 3A runner-up Washington (62-46). Their only two defeats were to Sapulpa and Tahlequah at the Tournament of Champions in Tulsa.

17. Mustang (14-5); last week (15)

Though the Lady Broncos were defeated by Putnam City North, they bounced back in their next game to down Piedmont, 48-30. Friday, they are at home, welcoming in two-time defending 6A champion Edmond North.

18. Seiling (16-3); last week (14)

Seiling was defeated by 2A contender Riverside, sandwiched between decisive wins against Hinton and Cyril. The Lady Wildcats are getting ready for a run at a Class A repeat, as they wind down the regular season.

19. Anadarko (17-4); last week (17)

The Lady Warriors were stymied in a loss to Tuttle before bouncing back with a 46-29 win against Blanchard. Friday, they welcome in defending 4A champion Bethany, which beat Anadarko by 32 points last month. No doubt that the Lady Warriors are more than eager to get revenge in the rematch.

20. Sand Springs (12-5); last week not ranked

Another team seeking to make serious noise in Class 6A. The Lady Sandites have won six of their last seven games, including a dramatic buzzer-beating win against Owasso on Jan. 26, avenging two earlier defeats to the Lady Rams. They had a relatively easier time of things on Jan. 30, beating Enid, 69-43. Friday, Sand Springs goes to Putnam City before returning home the following day to face U.S. Grant.

21. Dover (21-1); last week (20)

After winning 20 straight to start the season, the Lady Longhorns fell, 44-41, to Geronimo on Jan. 27. They got back to their winning ways three nights later with an 80-13 win against Aline-Cleo. Dover has three more regular-season games left before the Class B playoffs start, including Friday's game at Gracemont.

22. Norman (11-7); last week (21)

The Lady Tigers continue to play a challenging schedule, one that they hope will pay off in the end with another strong run in the 6A playoffs. They followed up a 41-39 loss to Yukon with a 42-37 win against Edmond Santa Fe. Norman is at home on Friday to take on a Northwest Classen squad still searching for its first win on the season.

23. Classen SAS (14-6); last week not ranked

A Class 4A state champion two seasons ago, the Lady Comets appear primed to grab another gold ball come March. They have won seven of their past eight ballgames, including wins against defending 3A champion Jones and 3A runner-up Washington. The Lady Comets can continue to generate momentum with home games on consecutive nights, Friday against Star-Spencer and Saturday against Mount St. Mary.

24. Inola (15-3); last week not ranked

Another newcomer to this week's rankings, and another team riding a hot streak of late, the Lady Longhorns have won 12 of their last 13 contests, with the only loss in that span a one-point defeat to Stilwell. They also have wins against fellow 4A ranked teams in Tuttle and Verdigris, and in their last game, recorded a 39-20 win against Sequoyah-Claremore. Inola begins a run of four straight home games Friday with Salina.

25. Bixby (15-4); last week not ranked

The Lady Spartans graduated four college-bound senior starters and underwent a coaching change. But they definitely can't be counted out again to make another deep run in 6A. Under first-year coach Rylie Littlejohn, Bixby has reeled off nine straight wins, including a 46-44 win against Broken Arrow on Jan. 27 followed three nights later with a 67-34 win against Southmoore. The Lady Spartans have a huge test on Friday with a road trip to take on undefeated Choctaw.
