Teams to watch

Brookings-Harbor

The Bruins haven’t lost in district play since dropping to 3A in 2018 and return two of their top players in Burton and four-year varsity player Schofield, also a top basketball player, as well as senior GK Annie Nation (seven shutouts in 2019).

Catlin Gabel

Led by Wand, the reigning state player of the year (12 goals, 12 assists) who signed with Colgate, and Carleton College signee Traw, the Eagles last season won their 14th title and first since 2010. They also return their top scorer in Dahlin (15 goals) and promising sophomores Fry and Mueller, who helped Catlin Gabel record 10 shutouts and allow eight goals all season.

Oregon Episcopal

The Aardvarks had their streak of titles ended at five by district rival Catlin Gabel in last season’s final. They were fairly young last season and return four players who made the all-state team and eight who made the all-district team.

Santiam Christian

The Eagles qualified for the state playoffs for the fourth consecutive season in 2019 and finally broke through with their first playoff victory ever. They bring back four all-state selections as well as junior all-league D Chloe Roberts.

St. Mary’s

The Crusaders have reached double-digit victories every season since 2007 and advanced to the semifinals last season with a team that didn’t feature a first- or second-team all-state selection. Five first-team all-district picks are back, including Lippert, who was the district Goalie of the Year.
