Jaden Steppe finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Tualatin over nationally-ranked West Linn in the Oregon 6A boys basketball state championship game Saturday at the University of Portland's Chiles Center.
Senior point guard Josiah Lake had 20 points as the Timberwolves won the state title for the second consecutive year. Oregon commit and four-star point guard Jackson Shelstad finished with a game-high 24 points for the Lions, but he went 0 of 7 from 3-point range.
The undersized Lions, No. 17 in the SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25 national rankings, were out-rebounded (37-23) and held to just 2-for-19 shooting from behind the arc.
West Linn won the three previous times it matched up with its Three Rivers League rival this season and has wins over nationally ranked Sierra Canyon and then-national No. 1 Duncanville.
The Lions (28-2) beat Tualatin in overtime Dec. 28 at the Les Schwab invitational behind Shelstad's 43 points, then won their league rematches 60-54 and 98-79. But in the end, the 6A state trophy stayed with Tualatin (24-5).
