Oregon 6A football awards: West Linn's Baird Gilroy is state's top newcomer

A look at the top Oregon 6A football performances during the regular season

The Oregon high school football postseason has arrived, which means it's time to give out my regular season awards.

Newcomer: Baird Gilroy, West Linn Lions

New face, new place (on the depth chart).

Entering the season, the only real question on the West Linn roster was at starting quarterback.

How would a new starter fare in a loaded Three Rivers League.

Gilroy, a junior, not only answered those questions, he flourished and delivered a possible all-state-caliber season.

The 6-foot-5, 205-pound signal-caller threw for 2,062 yards and 21 touchdowns - both top-five marks in 6A - with just four interceptions through Week 8.

He looks like a future college quarterback.

Gilroy has been one of the strengths of a roster littered with elite talent.

- Overall MVP

- Offensive player of the year

- Defensive player of the year
