Pennsylvania high school football top stars, best performances (10/8/2023)
There were several big-time high school football performances across the state of Pennsylvania this past weekend. Here are some of those performances.

Alex Erby, Steelton-Highspire
The lefty threw for 341 yards and five touchdowns in a win over Camp Hill. In the second quarter, he became the leading passer in Pennsylvania history, surpassing Brett Brumbaugh of South Lafayette.
Tyson Florence, Western Beaver
In a won over Riverside on Saturday, Florence caught a pair of passes for 108 yards and a touchdown, ran for almost 100 yards and two touchdowns and returned a punt for a score.
Garrett Garcia, Southern Columbia
Ran for a career-high 269 yards and scored two touchdowns in a win over Central Columbia.
Jackson Humes, North East
Completed 16-of-19 passes for 270 yards and four touchdowns, while rushing for 57 yards and a score in a win over Corry.
Samaj Jones, St. Joseph’s Prep
The University of Cincinnati recruit accounted for four touchdowns as the Hawks defeated La Salle 42-7. He threw three touchdown passes and ran for another.
Braden Laux, Belle Vernon
In a win over Greensburg Salem, Laux completed 14-of-16 passes for 337 yards and three touchdowns, all in the first half.
Shawn Lee, Jr., Harrisburg
The quarterback ran for 128 yards and four touchdowns in a 34-27 win over Central Dauphin East. His final touchdown came with a minute left on a 16-yard run to give the Cougars the win.
Blayze Myers, McDowell
In a win over Meadville, the junior quarterback threw for 291 yards and four touchdowns and also ran for a score.
Elijah Palmer-McCane, Ellwood City
Accounted for five touchdowns in 62-40 win over New Brighton. He ran for 286 yards and four touchdowns and added a score on a 55-yard catch.
Ethan Pillar, Pine-Richland
Ran for 297 yards and a touchdown on 56 carries as Pine-Richland handed Pittsburgh Central Catholic its first loss of the season, 26-19.
Deakon Schaeffer, Mifflin County
On Thursday night, the senior running back found the end zone six times and ran for 229 yards on 46 carries and added 34 yards receiving. He scored five times on the ground and once on a catch in a 42-35 win over Milton Hershey.
Carter Shanafelt, Peters Township
In a win over Moon Area, the receiver caught five passes for 166 yards and three touchdowns and also returned an interception for a score.
Quadir Stribling, Serra Catholic
Completed 20 of his 23 passes for 357 yards and four touchdowns in a win over Yough.
Ethan Varesko, Bethlehem-Center
Carried the ball 22 times for 422 yards and four touchdowns in a win over Bentworth.
Zach Welsh, Canon-McMillan
Had 280 yards rushing and four touchdowns in a win over Baldwin.
