Pennsylvania high school girls basketball: Meet the state’s best combo guards for the 2023-24 season

Who are the top combo guards in Pennsylvania high school girls basketball this season?

With fall sports in the rearview mirror, the high school basketball season is finally here.

SBLive Sports is highlighting some of the best players in Pennsylvania heading into the winter season.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be taking a position-by-position look at some of the best of the best in high school girls basketball. We started with point guards and are now moving on to combo guards.

Here are 20 of the best all-around guards in Pennsylvania entering the 2023-24 high school girls basketball season.

Haylie Adamski, jr., Garnet Valley

Adamski is a 6-foot perimeter player who gets it done at both ends of the court. She averaged 15.8 points, six rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.3 steals as a sophomore. 

Shaye Bailey, sr., Freedom Area

Bailey is a four-sport star for Freedom Area who competes in soccer, softball, track and field and basketball. She was a 2A first-team all-state pick on the hardwood last season, averaging 21.7 points, 4.8 steals and 4.2 rebounds. 

Kendall Berger, jr., Norwin

Berger put up 13.2 points per game as a sophomore and received 6A third-team all-state recognition. She has the ability to play either guard position for Norwin. 

Schuyler Coles, sr., Susquehanna Township

Coles averaged 20.7 points per game a season ago, and the talented guard was also Susquehanna Township’s top distributor. The New Haven signee received 4A second-team all-state honors as a junior.

Payton Collins, jr., Mt. Lebanon

Collins, one of the state’s top 3-point shooters, averaged north of 12 points per game as a sophomore. She had a game-high 25 points as Mt. Lebanon erased a 16-point four-quarter deficit to defeat Chartiers Valley in last year’s playoffs. 

Kylie Fruehstorfer, jr., Union Area

Playing alongside her sister, Kayla, Kylie Fruehstorfer scored a game-high 19 points as Union Area captured the 1A title a season ago with a 46-29 victory over Lourdes Regional. The sharpshooter averaged 12.5 points per game and received second-team all-state recognition. 

Maya Jenkins, jr., Scranton Prep

Jenkins is a knockdown 3-point shooter who also excels as a passer in Scranton Prep’s offense. She averaged 13.4 points per game as a sophomore and made 4A second-team all-state. 

Olivia Jones, jr., Westtown

Jones averaged 15.3 points per game last winter for Cedar Cliff en route to 6A first-team all-state honors. Now at Westtown, Jones has the skill to play point guard and the size to get buckets in the paint.

Bella Magestro, so., Kennedy Catholic

Magestro put up 12.3 points, four rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.1 steals a season ago and made 2A second-team all-state. She is a strong outside shooter and energetic defender. 

Mya Morgan, sr., Greensburg Central Catholic

Morgan averaged 16.8 points as a junior while making 55 3-pointers. The Cal (Pennsylvania) signee entered her senior season with 935 career points.

Senaya Parker, jr., Audenried

One of the nation’s top returning scorers, Parker averaged a staggering 43.1 points per contest as a sophomore for Samuel Fels while receiving 5A second-team all-state recognition. She is now at Audenried for her junior season. 

Olivia Pepple, sr., Penn-Trafford

Pepple took her game to another level last winter, putting up 16.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.8 steals. The talented guard is a Gannon University signee. 

Ava Persichetti, jr., River Valley

Persichetti was a sophomore sensation for River Valley, averaging 19.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 3.6 steals. For her efforts, the Division I prospect was voted 3A first-team all-state.

Hannah Pugliese, sr., Penn Hills

Pugliese averaged 17 points per game a season ago for Penn Hills. She will play college basketball for Slippery Rock. 

Joanie Quinn, sr., Cardinal O’Hara 

A La Salle signee, Quinn put up 11.8 points, 2.8 assists and three steals last winter. Quinn can also run the point and is a capable 3-point shooter. 

Alayna Rocco, sr., North Catholic

A Harvard commit, Rocco averaged 17.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.5 steals last year. She was voted 4A first-team all-state after helping lead North Catholic to the WPIAL title.  

Amya Scott, jr., Neumann-Goretti

Scott averaged 15.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.8 steals as a junior en route to 4A third-team all-state honors. The multi-dimensional guard creates a dangerous one-two punch in Neumann-Goretti’s backcourt with Carryn Easley. 

Iyanna Wade, jr., Clairton

A scoring guard who can also handle the ball, Wade put up a staggering 33.3 points per game as a sophomore for Clairton. She received 2A first-team all-state recognition.

Gemma Walker, sr., Peters Township

Walker led the Big 56 Conference in scoring as a junior at 20.1 points per game. An aggressive offensive player, Walker will play Division I college basketball for Saint Francis. 

Lena Walz, sr., Cathedral Prep

A sniper from long distance, Walz put up 12.8 points per game a season ago for Cathedral Prep. She is a St. Bonaventure signee.
