Pennsylvania high school boys basketball: Meet the state’s best forwards for the 2023-24 season
With fall sports in the rearview mirror, the high school basketball season is finally here.
SBLive Sports is highlighting some of the best players in Pennsylvania heading into the winter season.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be taking a position-by-position look at some of the best of the best in high school boys basketball. We started with point guards, combo guards and wings, and now it’s the forwards’ turn.
Here are 20 of the best forwards in Pennsylvania entering the 2023-24 high school boys basketball season.

Brant Byers, sr., Perkiomen
Byers is a versatile big man who can protect the rim and bury 3-pointers. The Miami (Ohio) signee averaged 12.7 points, six rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game as a junior.
Dante Carr, so., Minersville
Carr put up 15.5 points per game during his freshman season for Minersville. He is also the school’s starting quarterback.
Luca Foster, so., Archbishop Carroll
One of the top sophomores in Pennsylvania, Foster is expected to have a major role with state title contender Archbishop Carroll this season. His early offers include St. Joseph’s and Temple.
Matt Gilhool, jr., William Penn Charter
An athletic big man, Gilhool is a four-star prospect with offers from Miami, Penn State and Syracuse, among others. He is a stretch forward at 6-foot-11 who averaged 11 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks for Westtown last season.
Elijah Guillory, sr., Moon Area
Guillory put up around 17 points per game as a junior. The 6-foot-5 senior swingman is a team leader for Class 5A WPIAL contender Moon Area.
Tristen Guillouette, sr., George School
Guillouette nearly averaged a double-double for St. Joseph’s Prep last season, tallying 10 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Now at George School, Guillouette is an imposing forward at 6-foot-9 and 235 pounds.
Josh Herr, sr., Gettysburg
Herr is an inside-outside threat for Gettysburg who closed his junior season on a heater by averaging nearly 20 points per game. He finished the winter putting up 14.4 points.
JJ Kelly, jr., Chambersburg
A Pennsylvania and national champion triple jumper, Kelly is also a Division I prospect on the hardwood. He picked up his first basketball offer from Mount St. Mary over the summer.
Touari Ketner, sr., Bonner-Prendergast
Ketner put up 13 points per game as a junior for Bonner-Prendergast. He is a standout defensive player who can protect the rim and guard on the perimeter.
Nelson Lamizana, sr., Henderson
Lamizana spent his first two years at Henderson, transferred to Bonner-Prendergast for his junior season and is back at Henderson to close his high school career. The 6-foot-9 senior is a factor at both ends of the court.
Thaddeus Lee, jr., Mercersburg Academy
The 6-foot-8 Lee can play inside and outside for Mercersburg Academy. He is a strong offensive player who also shines on the glass.
Cameron Lindsey, sr., Aliquippa
A four-star Pittsburgh football commit, Lindsey is equally dominant on the basketball court. He put up 15 points and 11 boards as a junior for reigning WPIAL 2A champion Aliquippa.
Pearse McGuinn, sr., Cardinal O’Hara
McGuinn averaged 12.4 points, six rebounds and 2.5 blocks as a junior while shooting 60 percent from the floor and 37 percent from beyond the arc. He will play Division I college basketball for Stonehill.
Christopher Meakin, sr., Littlestown
Meakin surpassed the 1,000 career points mark during his junior season for Littlestown. The athletic 6-foot-8 senior is also a star soccer goalie.
Onyx Nnani, jr., Phelps
The 6-foot-9 Nnani can play power forward or center for a stacked Phelps frontline. His early offers include Oklahoma State, Oregon and Penn State.
Joseph Roth, sr., Ellwood City
A state champion swimmer in the backstroke, Roth is also a star basketball player for Ellwood City. He was voted 3A second-team all-state after averaging 30.1 points and 14.7 rebounds last winter.
Aidan Sallie, jr., Big Spring
Sallie averaged 19.4 points per game during his junior season for Big Spring. He is also a star infielder and pitcher on the diamond.
Jake Sniras, jr., Garnet Valley
Sniras put up 17.6 points per game as a sophomore for Garnet Valley. He is a three-level scorer who can also rebound and protect the rim.
Cam Wallace, jr., Westtown
Wallace is a strong outside shooter who can also get buckets in the paint. His early Division I offers include Cincinnati, Mississippi State and Temple.
Kingston Wheatley, so., West Catholic
The 6-foot-7 Wheatley is a lockdown defender for a West Catholic team looking to defend its 3A state title. The sophomore will have a much larger role on offense this season.
