Layke Fields scores game-high 29 points to lead Kennedy Catholic past Marion Center 42-40 for second consecutive state crown
HERSHEY, PENNSYLVANIA — Layke Fields scored a game-high 29 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and had four blocks to lift Kennedy Catholic over Marion Center 42-40 in the Pennsylvania (PIAA) Class 2A state girls basketball championship on Thursday afternoon at the Giant Center.
The final three points for Fields came with five seconds remaining when she grabbed her own rebound and put it in while getting fouled. She hit the free throw to give Kennedy Catholic a 42-40 lead.
It marked the second consecutive 2A state hoop title for the Golden Eagles (25-4) and the third in school history.
The Stingers finished with a 24-6 record.
