Montverde Academy (Florida) started the 2023-24 high school basketball season in November as the nation’s No. 1 ranked team. Nine weeks later, the Eagles are still at the top.

Fresh off a 1-0 week featuring a dominant victory, Cooper Flagg and Montverde (19-0) held on to No. 1 in the latest update to the SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25 national high school boys basketball rankings.

Later this week, the Eagles will host the Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament, an eight-team tournament including No. 4 Prolific Prep (California) and No. 11 Brewster Academy (New Hampshire).

Notre Dame (California) and Patrick School (New Jersey) joined the top 25 this week, with Harvard-Westlake (California) and Dream City Christian (Arizona) falling to the bubble for now.

The top team in the country kept its perfect season alive with a 76-31 win against DME Academy (Florida). The Eagles will host their Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament next week, which could lead to a matchup with No. 4 Prolific Prep or No. 11 Brewster Academy.

2. Columbus (Miami, Fla.) (16-4)

Columbus stays at No. 2 after a week off from competition. The Explorers will be back in action this week as their regular season winds down.

3. St. Paul VI (Chantilly, Va.) (15-2)

Previous rank: 3; Up next: Jan. 23 vs. No. 14 Gonzaga (DC)

Coming off their loss to No. 2 Columbus at the Hoophall Classic, the Panthers rebounded with an emphatic 90-61 win over Archbishop Carroll (DC). They have a pair of tough games coming this week against No. 14 Gonzaga and No. 22 Bishop O’Connell this week.

4. Prolific Prep (Napa, Calif.) (21-3)

Prolific Prep, still playing without injured five-star senior Derrion Reid, went 2-0 at the Crush in the Valley, defeating then-No. 20 Dream City Christian (Arizona) and Bella Vista Prep (Arizona). The Crew will be in Florida this week for the M.A.I.T., with a potential rematch against No. 1 Montverde looming.

5. Link Academy (Branson, Mo.) (19-4)

Previous rank: 5; Up next: Feb. 1 vs. No. 11 Brewster Academy (NH)

Link Academy went 2-0 at the Quincy Shootout, receiving strong contributions from Tre Johnson, James Brown and Jasper Johnson in wins over Oak Cliff Faith Family (Texas) and The Burlington School (North Carolina).

6. Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.) (11-3)

Previous rank: 6; Up next: Jan. 27 vs. Eagle Academy (NY)

After playing no games last week, the Crusaders have what should be a tune-up before big games next week against No. 5 Link Academy and No. 14 Gonzaga.

7. Dynamic Prep (Irving, Tex.) (15-1)

Previous rank: 7; Up next: Jan. 23 at OKC Millwood (OK)

Dynamic Prep is back from a bye week with a trip to Oklahoma City to take on Millwood. The team has played only three games (all wins) since winning the Chick-Fil-A Classic in December and jumping into the top 10.

8. Wasatch Academy (Wasatch, Utah) (12-3)

Previous rank: 8; Up next: Feb. 2 vs. Desert Valley Prep (NV)

A shorthanded Wasatch squad had a strong showing in Illinois at the Quincy Shootout, going 2-0 with wins against iSchool of Lewisville (Texas) and Huntington Prep (West Virginia).

9. AZ Compass Prep (Chandler, Ari.) (16-5)

Previous rank: 9; Up next: Jan. 23 vs. AOSS Prep (CA)

The Dragons continue a slow stretch of their schedule this week with a home game against AOSS Prep (California).After that, their next game is Feb. 7 against PHH Prep (Arizona).

10. Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) (12-3)

Previous rank: 10; Up next: Jan. 22 vs. Paramus Catholic (NJ)

Five-star Dylan Harper and Don Bosco took down in-state opponents Teaneck and Paul VI last week. The Ironmen have a busy week coming up with games against Paramus Catholic, DePaul Catholic and Ramapo.

11. Brewster Academy (Wolfeboro, N.H.) (16-3)

Previous rank: 13; Up next: Jan. 25 vs. Calvary Christian (FL)
Brewster started off last week with a win over five-star Joson Sanon and Vermont Academy before picking up wins against Massachusetts schools Bradford Academy and Central Catholic. The Bobcats will be in Florida this week for the M.A.I.T.

12. Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) (15-3)

Previous rank: 14; Up next: Jan. 23 vs. Experience Prep (TN)

Following back-to-back losses to No. 1 Montverde Academy and No. 11 Brewster Academy at the Hoophall Classic, the Warriors got back on track with a 95-58 win over Elevation Prep (North Carolina).

13. La Lumiere (La Porte, Ind.) (12-3)

Previous rank: 15; Up next: Jan. 23 at Bosco Institute (IN)

La Lumiere defeated Wilson Academy (Georgia), 72-67, in its only game last week. Since losing two games in a row to No. 6 Long Island Lutheran and No. 8 Wasatch Academy, the Lakers have put together a three game win streak.

14. Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) (15-2)

Previous rank: 16; Up next: Jan. 23 at No. 3 St. Paul VI (VA)

Gonzaga extended its win streak to four games with a 33-point victory over St. Mary’s Ryken (Maryland) last week. Up next for the Eagles is a Washington Catholic Athletic Conference showdown with No. 3 St. Paul VI on the road. 

15. Myers Park (Charlotte, N.C.) (15-2)

Previous rank: 17; Up next: Jan. 23 at Berry (NC)

Top 40 junior Sadiq White led Myers Park with 22 points, five rebounds and three blocks in a 68-40 win against South Mecklenburg (North Carolina). The Mustangs continue conference play this week with games at Berry and A.C. Reynolds.

16. Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) (22-1)

Previous rank: 21; Up next: Jan. 24 at JSerra Catholic (CA)

Mater Dei has emerged as the top team in California with two weeks left in the state’s regular season. The Monarchs extended their win streak to 15 games with victories last week against in-state opponents Santa Margarita, Orange Lutheran and Campbell Hall.

17. Plano East (Plano, Tex.) (26-0)

Previous rank: 18; Up next: Jan. 23 at Marcus (TX)

Plano East’s defense showed out in a 74-23 win against Flower Mound (Texas) a few days after the Panthers beat Hebron (Texas), 70-53. This week they’ll see district opponent Lewisville (24-1), whose only loss this season came at the hands of Plano East.

18. Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) (22-0)

Previous rank: Unranked; Up next: Jan. 24 vs. Crespi (CA)

Led by Houston commit Mercy Miller, the undefeated Knights earned a spot in the national rankings with an upset of former No. 12 Harvard-Westlake (California). They’ll put their new ranking on the line later this week against Bryce James and Sierra Canyon, one of the top teams in the state.

19. Patrick School (Elizabeth, N.J.) (17-1)

Previous rank: Unranked; Up next: Jan. 31 at College Achieve (NJ)

Dreams of an undefeated season ended for The Patrick School with a loss to Bridgton Academy (Maine), but the North Jersey squad still has wins over No. 10 Don Bosco and bubble team St. Rose (New Jersey) to its name.

20. Ridge View (Columbia, S.C.) (17-1)

Previous rank: 11; Up next: Jan. 23 vs. A.C. Flora (SC)

Ridge View surrendered its first loss of the season, falling at home to Westwood (South Carolina) by two points. The Blazers, who still hold a win over No. 23 Grayson (Georgia) and bubble team John Marshall (Virginia) from earlier this season, responded with a region win against Richland Northeast.

21. IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) (9-7)

Previous rank: 19; Up next: Jan. 23 vs. Palmetto (FL)

IMG went 2-0 at its Ascender Classic, picking up wins over B.C.A.T. (Florida) and Rock Creek Christian (Maryland).

22. Bishop O’Connell (Arlington, Va.) (14-3)

Previous rank: 22; Up next: Jan. 23 at Good Counsel (MD)

Weather forced Bishop O’Connell’s game against St. John’s (D.C.) to be postponed last week. The Knights will be back in action this week with conference games against No. 3 St. Paul VI and Good Counsel (MD).

23. Grayson (Loganville, Ga.) (17-2)

Previous rank: 23; Up next: Jan. 23 vs. Newton (GA)

Grayson went on the road last week and picked up a 58-42 region win against South Gwinnett. The Rams have won two in a row since losing on a buzzer beater to preseason No. 23 Perry (Arizona) at the Hoophall Classic.

24. Jackson-Reed (Washington, D.C.) (20-2)

Previous rank: 24; Up next: Jan. 22 vs. Bell (DC)

Playing their first game of the season as a nationally-ranked bunch, the Tigers beat Banneker (DC) by 20 points. 

25. Archbishop Stepinac (White Plains, N.Y.) (12-3)

Previous rank: 25; Up next: Jan. 23 at Monsignor Scanlan (NY)

Coming off their big win over No. 10 Don Bosco that vaulted them back into the national rankings, the Crusaders went 2-0 last week with league wins over St. Raymond and St. Peter’s.
