In an effort to shine a brighter spotlight on Washington high school basketball players, we are introducing our first-ever SBLive Boys Basketball Recruiting Rankings.

Our rankings are compiled by SBLive Basketball Analyst Dan Dickau based on observations and conversations with an extensive network of coaching and media sources across the country. The players have been evaluated through a college recruiting lens and analyzed in four categories: athleticism, ball skills, basketball IQ and upside.

Over the next few weeks we will roll out our Top 25 players in Washington. Here’s a closer look at No. 15 on the list, Nathan Hale point guard Julian Agosto:

DICKAU’S ANALYSIS

ATHLETICISM: Speed and quickness is so important in basketball and Agosto may be the quickest player in the state. He is small and undersized but his quickness both laterally and with his hands allows him to be a pest on defense and get into the paint on offense and create problems.

BALL SKILLS: Agosto is an attacking guard with a nice handle who can score in the lane efficiently despite his size. He couples this with his ability to shoot it, which makes him a load to cover in the high school game. Defensively you would think teams could take advantage of him because of his size, but he doesn’t back down and can really pressure ball-handlers.

BASKETBALL IQ: Even though he’s a scoring guard, he has a nice feel for getting others involved and balancing when to attack to score, and when to attack to create for others. It's amazing how the Seattle Metro League produces so many players. Much of it is because of the culture of the old guard working with the young up-and-comers to impart their knowledge. I've heard from multiple sources that Agosto takes the lessons to heart and works hard at his game.

UPSIDE: Multiple Division I and Division II schools are recruiting Agosto —including Seattle U., Portland State, Idaho, Buffalo and Cal State-Northridge — and waiting to see how the season progresses. As with many small guards it is more about fit and style for a college program as opposed to the level.
