In an effort to shine a brighter spotlight on Washington high school basketball players, we are introducing our first-ever SBLive Boys Basketball Recruiting Rankings.

Our rankings are compiled by SBLive Basketball Analyst Dan Dickau based on observations and conversations with an extensive network of coaching and media sources across the country. The players have been evaluated through a college recruiting lens and analyzed in four categories: athleticism, ball skills, basketball IQ and upside.

Over the next few weeks we will continue to roll out our Top 25 players in Washington. Here’s a closer look at No. 8 on the list, O'Dea shooting guard John Christofilis.

DICKAU’S ANALYSIS

ATHLETICISM: Christofilis was hampered by injuries the last few seasons which stalled his recruiting for a bit. When he has been healthy he has shown the ability to surprise people with his athleticism and toughness. His performance in the summer and fall put the injury question aside as he played very well.

BALL SKILLS: He is probably the best shooter in the state from the guard spots. He has shown the ability to make plays in the pick and roll but his strength as a college prospect comes from his ability to stretch the defense with his range well beyond the 3-point line. If he can become great at coming off screens he will be tremendous at Creighton.

BASKETBALL IQ: Christofilis plays alongside Top 3 national recruit Paolo Banchero — and he plays for a tremendous high school coach in Jason Kerr at O’Dea — so he knows and accepts his role, while starring in it.

UPSIDE: Christofilis has already signed with Creighton, a program that always places a premium on having shooters in their system. Could he be the next great sniper from the perimeter in Omaha, following in the footsteps of Kyle Korver, Doug McDermott and Mitch Ballock? Only time will tell, but when healthy and with his work ethic he could be a really good college player.
