Over the weekend, Willis High School (Texas) five-star prospect D.J. Lagway, the nation's No. 1 quarterback in 2024, took his first recruiting visit in several weeks.

It marked his third trip to the LSU campus.

And the visit did not disappoint.

"They are, no doubt, a serious contender in my recruitment, and I can't wait to keep furthering my relationship with them," Lagway said.

This trip, in particular, was an opportunity to see the coaching staff up close and personal in order to better understand how they develop their players.

"I was getting to know the coaching staff more this time," Lagway said. "Spending more personal time with the coaches to see how they coach and how they teach the game of football to their players, really."

That meant even more one-on-one time with LSU quarterback coach Joe Sloan.

"Me and coach (Joe) Salon talk weekly," Lagway said. "I feel like I have a good relationship with him, and it built definitely after this weekend."

Given LSU's history developing the quarterback position, it's a legacy that the Texas product feels would be an honor to join someday.

"It would be a blessing," Lagway said. "That would be something cool to do. The fanbase is really crazy in Baton Rogue, so that would be something that I would love to do"

Still, the Texas bluechip signal-caller is far from a decision.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound quarterback hopes to announce his eventual college commitment next summer, but in the more immediate future, he plans to take unofficial visits to Clemson, Florida and Oklahoma in the coming weeks.
