One of the top recruits in the class of 2024 is expected to come off the board Thursday, as Saline High School (Michigan) quarterback C.J. Carr is set to announce his commitment.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound signal-caller, who is the grandson of former Michigan Wolverines coach Lloyd Carr and son of former Michigan player Jason Carr, is set to make his commitment Thursday at 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET on CBS SportsHQ and is down to a group of finalists that includes Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Wisconsin:

Carr is a 247Sports composite five-star prospect and is rated the nation's No. 20 overall prospect and No. 5 quarterback.

As a sophomore, he went 156-of-243 (64.2 completion percentage) for 28 touchdowns and just four interceptions.

Here's what 247Sports had to say about Carr as a prospect, comparing him to New England Patriots signal-caller Mac Jones:

"Stands just about 6-foot-3, 190 pounds going into his junior season of high school. Continues to fill in nicely as his high school career progresses. Very cerebral player who studies the game and thinks the game. That was evident in his sophomore even though that was his first as the full-time varsity starter. His processing speed should only get faster in his junior and senior seasons. Has good, classic passing mechanics and accuracy. Arm strength is good and he can get the ball to any part of the field. Good enough athlete to get around in the pocket, escape the rush and run if need be, but running will not be a major part of his game. Very safe projection as a college starter based on maturity, approach and skill set."

So, where is Carr headed?

The entire recruiting industry is buzzing with "Carr to Notre Dame" predictions, and that outcome seems like a near-lock at this point.

The Fighting Irish have been on fire on the recruiting trail since the departure of Brian Kelly to LSU, and that trend is likely to continue Thursday - even if Carr first received his offer as a freshman when Kelly was at the helm.

Notre Dame has the nation's No. 1 recruiting class in 2023 and a top-five class in 2024, a group that would be bolstered significantly with the addition of a five-star quarterback.
