Walker Lyons, nation's No. 5 tight end, commits to Stanford Cardinal, will take 2-year LDS mission
The West region has an historic collection of tight end talent in the class of 2023, and arguably the top one came off the board Saturday.
Folsom High School (California) star Walker Lyons, the nation's No. 5 tight end, announced his commitment to Stanford over the weekend, choosing the Cardinal over fellow contenders Alabama, Georgia and USC:
For the 6-foot-4, 230-pound jumbo pass-catcher, Stanford stood out for two main reasons.
"The combination of developing nfl tight ends and the number one academic institution in the world was something I could not pass up on," Lyons said,.
While the dynamic California athlete is excited about his collegiate future it will have to wait.
Lyons said he will graduate early before taking a two-year LDS mission.
As a junior, he hauled in 44 receptions for 746 yards and nine touchdowns.
Stanford's class jumps from No. 44 nationally to No. 35 with the addition of Lyons, jumping notable programs Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin and Florida State in the process.
