Spencer Fano, 4-star offensive tackle, sets decision date; BYU, Oregon, Clemson among contenders
The top offensive tackle in the West region is nearing a decision.
First reported by 247Sports, Timpview High School (Utah) offensive lineman Spencer Fano will make his college decision December 6.
The 6-foot-5, 270-pound lineman is rated the nation's No. 57 overall prospect and No. 8 offensive tackle.
Fano has previously announced a top four of BYU, Michigan, Oregon and Utah, however another school may be entering the mix.
After receiving a recent offer from Clemson, the Utah product indicated he was planning a visit.
Fano shared a tweet on social media Friday reminding people that Clemson is in the mix, along with his top four, all of whom he has already visited.
Clearly, the Tigers are a late-riser to watch, but BYU and Oregon have long been considered the top two for him.
Fano's brother, Logan, plays for the Cougars and the Ducks have been recruiting Spencer since the early Mario Cristobal era.
Here's On3's scouting report on the Utah product:
"“Light-footed, technical offensive tackle. Always under control and a menace in the running and passing game. Plays with violence and has exceptional balance. Athleticism stands out when working in open space as a puller and when climbing to the second level. Comfortable in pass protection. Quality kick slide and footwork to live on an island at either tackle spot. Lacks ideal overall mass and strength throughout his frame. One of the few top offensive linemen nationally who does not have verified size or length. Biggest question mark for how soon he can see the field will be his ability to put on good weight. Must add power in order to play with necessary functional strength. Has a high upside due to his movement skills but a low floor as well if he can not get his weight up."
