Weston Port, nation's No. 8 linebacker, previews spring visit schedule; BYU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Tennessee trips upcoming
It's early in the recruitment of class of 2025 prospects.
But San Juan Hills (California) star Weston Port has already registered scholarships from more than 25 major college football programs and has caught the eye of dozens of others.
Rated the nation's No. 8 linebacker, recruiting services have also taken note.
Port, a member of the LDS church, intends to graduate a semester early as a senior and take a two-year mission before arriving at his school of choice.
Hoping to take the next step in his recruitment, the 6-foot-1, 215-pound 'backer has a busy visit schedule this spring and gave his thoughts on some of the teams slated to earn a visit.
UCLA - March 4
"UCLA is definitely building something. I've been in touch with them a lot in the last couple of years. Coach (Chip) Kelly has visited our school a couple of times and I have a former teammate that plays there. I'm excited about this visit, for sure."
Michigan - March 12 (return trip)
"It’s definitely an important school on my list. I’m excited about the school, the program and the coaches. I’ve met a lot of them and really liked it. I just want to get to know the area and campus and get a feel for the culture there. I had a great interaction with coach (Jim) Harbaugh and he seems like a great coach."
Oklahoma - March 25
"Oklahoma is special. I’ve heard the most from them. The coaches are always reaching out through my coach, so I’ve talked to them a lot and really love what is happening there. I had a chance to visit for Bedlam and it was a really cool environment."
BYU - March 31
"Obviously a school I’ve followed my whole life, so to have them interested in me means a lot. Kalani (Sitake) is an awesome coach and person. I have two sisters there and have visited a lot."
Tennessee - April 5
"I have family in Tennessee. My grandpa graduated from there and loves the school. They seem really interested and that makes me excited. I’m really looking forward to seeing the school and getting to know the coaches."
Georgia - April 6
"(That relationship is) just getting started but that’s one I’ve definitely been looking forward to. It speaks for itself - great coaches and great program."
Auburn - April 7
Miami - April 8
