NBA Draft 2023: Former Duncanville (Texas) star Anthony Black to the Orlando Magic
Just a year ago Anthony Black was a senior in high school, finishing up his remarkable prep career at Duncanville High in Texas.
The No. 1 point guard in the country in the class of 2022, Black led Duncanville to a Texas 6A state championship, was named a McDonald's All-American and helped the USA Basketball Men’s U18 National Team win a gold medal.
On Thursday, the 6-foot-7 Black was drafted No. 6 overall in the 2023 NBA Draft.
An impressive freshman season with the Arkansas Razorbacks - 12.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.1 steals - cemented his status as a lottery pick.
Black was projected to be picked as high as No. 6 overall to the Magic, and that's exactly what happened.
The Magic aren't the ideal fit for Black as they are guard heavy. But with the No. 6 overall pick, he was the best player available. Black's length, playmaking ability and positional versatility make him an attractive pick.
Here's a look at where Black was projected to be picked in the 2023 NBA Draft:
- Yahoo! Sports had Black being drafted No. 6 overall to the Orlando Magic.
- Bleacher Report had Black being drafted No. 8 overall to the Washington Wizards.
- The Sporting News had Black being drafted at No. 8 overall to the Washington Wizards.
- The Ringer had Black being drafted at No. 9 overall to the Utah Jazz.
