Jerrick Gibson, nation's No. 2 running back, commits to Texas Longhorns
One of the nation's most electric playmakers is off the board.
On Saturday, IMG Academy (Florida) star Jerrick Gibson, the nation's No. 2 running back, committed to the Texas Longhorns during his official visit on Instagram Live:
Gibson held offers from more than 20 major programs, but had trimmed his list to a final five of Florida, Georgia, Miami, Tennessee and Texas.
The 5-foot-10, 205-pound playmaker is rated there nation's No. 39 overall prospect in the 247Sports composite rankings and is currently the class headliner for Texas.
Still, there may be several big names headed to Austin.
In the past few days, the Longhorns have added commitments from a dynamic running back duo, Gibson and Mountain Pointe (Arizona) star Christian Clark, Desert Mountain (Arizona) four-star cornerback Santana Wilson and Smithson Valley (Texas) four-star wide receiver Freddie Dubose.
Those commitments have come amid loud rumblings that Texas is about to go on a serious hot streak on the recruiting trail.
Given that Texas, a perennial national powerhouse in recruiting, currently has just six pledges in a class ranked No. 63 nationally, those rumors don't seem far-fetched.
Expect the hot streak to continue - with Texas (and Gibson) potentially adding some much-needed blockers to the class.
