In the early stages of the Dan Lanning era at Oregon, he has extended the program's recruiting reach from the West Coast into the talent-rich state of Texas.

But he's also angling to start tapping into the Northeast.

Having already secured St. Frances Academy (Maryland) bluechip cornerback Ify Obidegwu and quarterback Michael Van Buren, the Ducks made it a trifecta Monday.

St. John's (Washington D.C.) running back Da'Jaun Riggs committed to Oregon over Minnesota and Pittsburgh.

The 6-foot, 202-pound ball-carrier, who is rated the nation's No. 58 running back, took an official visit to Oregon in June, which seemed to lock in his future in Eugene.

While Riggs loved the chance to connect with the current players on the team and tour the facilities, his choice boiled down to his relationship with Oregon running back coach Carlos Locklyn.

“Coach Lock, he’s a good man," Riggs said. "Me and him had the same background. Nothing was really handed out to us. We had to go earn it. Being around a guy that’s like me and has a chip on his shoulder was a major part of it.”

He also connected to Lanning on his trip.

“Coach (Dan) Lanning, his personality is amazing," Riggs said. "He has an amazing personality, and all of the coaches have different personalities.:

While the Washington D.C. product is not as highly rated as some of Oregon's recent running back additions, he was highly coveted by the staff and was considered a significant priority.

Oregon's recruiting class is ranked No. 8 nationally.
