Kekai Burnett, 3-star edge-rusher, commits to Oregon State Beavers
The Oregon State Beavers are in the middle of a recruiting hot streak that doesn't appear to be nearing an end anytime soon.
Amid rumblings of several verbal commitments coming in the next week-plus, Jonathan Smith's program picked up its second "get" in as many days, as Punahou (Hawaii) three-star edge rusher Kekai Burnett joined Chaminade (California) three-star offensive lineman David Abajian choosing the Beavers:
The 6-foot-3, 235-pound defender is rated the nation's No. 58 edge-rusher and No. 5 player in the state of Hawaii and chose Oregon State over fellow finalists Cal, Hawaii and Washington State.
Burnett has been a camp standout at multiple stops over the past several months, including the recent ESPN 300 Hawaii camp, according to 247Sports:
"Burnett was arguably the top defensive lineman there and showed a quick first step, power and leverage in his reps. Burnett does a good job using his hands and shedding his blocks and gets a good push on his blocker to get into the backfield and can be a problem as a pass-rusher. Oregon State, Washington State, Hawaii and Cal are among his top suitors."
Don't expect Oregon State's hot streak to end at 2.
The Beavers are considered the heavy favorites for Memorial (Texas) three-star running back Brandon Tullis, who announced his decision Saturday, and North Medford (Oregon) offensive lineman Terrell Kim, who is said to be nearing a decision.
Overall, Oregon State's 2024 class jumps from No. 65 to No. 63 nationally with Burnett's commitment, leapfrogging UNLV and Miami (Ohio) in the process.
