Gatlin Bair, elite wide receiver, updates recruitment after Oregon, Boise State coaches attend game
The Oregon Ducks haven't been shy about their pursuit of top targets in recent weeks.
Whether they are verbally committed elsewhere or not.
Dan Lanning and Tosh Lupoi visited five-star defensive prospects Aydin Breland and Elijah Rushing during the bye week earlier this month.
Since that time, Breland has committed to Oregon and Rushing has decommitted from Arizona - with growing buzz that he'll eventually choose a future in Eugene.
So, when Oregon and Boise State both attended the Friday night contest of Burley (Idaho) All-American wide receiver and track superstar Gatlin Bair it raised some eyebrows.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound pass-catcher is committed to Boise State, but Oregon presence made both fanbases perk up.
First, Bair said he appreciated Oregon's public interest.
"Definitely was cool of them to come out and showed how interested they are in me," he said. "I’ve got a good relationship with all of the coaches at Oregon."
Still, he said any talk of a flip - or even the hint of uncertainly about his commitment to Boise State - is premature and unfounded.
"I wouldn’t say there's momentum or anything like that," he said. "I’m still very committed to Boise, but (the Ducks) haven’t stopped trying to recruit me and have been coming after me very hard even after I had committed to Boise."
Of course, there's still lots of time - more than with a traditional recruit.
Bair, the nation's No. 35 overall prospect, intends to graduate in January before taking a two-year LDS mission.
That time lapse will make him a "free agent" again even if he signs binding paperwork with Boise State upon graduation.
So, it's something to monitor, especially if Oregon refuses to give up its pursuit.
