Jordon Davison visiting Oregon; 5-star running back previews trip

Mater Dei (California) five-star running back Jordon Davison is making a return trip to Eugene this weekend

For years, the Mater Dei Monarchs (California) were a pipeline program for the USC Trojans.

But in recent recruiting cycle, the Oregon Ducks have managed to siphon off some of the talent.

This weekend, Dan Lanning and his coaching staff hope to impress a collection of Mater Dei's top juniors who are visiting Eugene, including five-star edge-rusher/linebacker Nasir Wyatt, elite wide receiver Marcus Harris and five-star running back Jordon Davison.

Davison, the nation's No. 21 overall prospect and No. 2 running back, has been to Eugene multiple times already, but is beginning to take a more serious look at this options as his recruitment progresses.

Against USC, Davison wants a first-hand look at how the Ducks utilize their running backs.

So far this season, he has liked what he has seen.

"I love how they involve the running backs in the offense," he said. "They put you into one-on-one situations and take advantage of that."

Equally important, Davison wants to get to know running back coach Carlos Locklyn a little bit better.

"I’m looking forward to getting around Coach Lock and Coach Lanning again," he said.

Obviously Saturday's matchup is a huge one on the field for an Oregon team angling to make the college football playoff and secure a Heisman Trophy for quarterback Bo Nix.

But it's also a big one on the recruiting trail, as the next wave of Mater Dei superstars will be in attendance.
