Chesterfield softball comes back to win 2-A state championship

Kaylee Eubanks home run and Caitlyn Gibson's complete game fuels Golden Rams in decisive game three

Kaylee Eubanks blasted a two-run homer to get things going and Caitlyn Gibson pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts as Chesterfield beat Mid-Carolina 8-3 in Game 3 of the 2-A state championship series.

The game was played before a sellout crowd at the University of South Carolina’s Beckham Field.

Chesterfield (21-7) was able to overcome losing Game 1 to become champions.

Brylie Harper’s RBI double gave Chesterfield a 4-2 lead in the third inning. A an error allowed two runs to score in the third inning. Arianna Vanderpool hit a sacrifice fly and Kylie Pace, who was 3-for-3, doubled in a run.

Grace Rhyne and Gibson each had two hits.

Cheserfield Softball

Mid-Carolina had swept defending state champion Gray Collegiate to win the Upper State title and reach the championship series.

Mid-Carolina (16-9) took Game 1 5-3 despite Karley Eubanks going 3-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBIs. Kendall Brooks had a hit and RBI.

Gibson took the loss.

Jamison Miles had a hit and two RBIs while Gibson threw a five-hitter with eight strikeouts as Chesterfield beat Mid-Carolina 6-1 in Game 2 to even the series.

Karley Eubanks was 2-for-3 and Kendall Eubanks went 1-for-1 with an RBI.
