FLORENCE, SOUTH CAROLINA – Jaleya Ford scored 21 points and Lake View trimmed Denmark-Olar, 49-46, to win the SCHSL Class 1-A girls basketall state championship Saturday morning at the Florence Center.

Gwendasia Page had 14 points and Zy’kiara Waters added 10 as the Wild Gators concluded their season with a 26-4 record.

It was third straight year that Denmark-Olar lost in the state championship game and this one might sting the most. D-O led by four with just over a minute to play but Waters drew a foul and made both free throws. Ford then came up with a steal and hit a jumper to tie game.

D-O regained the lead but Ford put Lake View ahead 47-46 on a jumper with 29 seconds remaining.

The Vikings had a chance for a game-winning shot but were whistled for an offensive foul.

Page hit two free throws with two seconds left to ice the game.

Aveion Walker led D-O (25-4) with 24 points, 14 rebounds and 5 steals.

Christ Church throttles Bethune-Bowman

Adam Brown scored 14 points and Reid Hipp added 11 as Christ Church throttled Bethune-Bowman to win the SCHSL Class 1-A boys basketball state championship for the second year in a row.

The Cavaliers (19-5) jumped to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter, held off a brief run by the Mohawks, and coasted to victory. Derik Simon’s jumper got the Mohawks within five late in the third quarter but Christ Church dominated the rest of the way.

Christ Church limited Bethune-Bowman to 25 percent shooting and held a commanding 47-27 edged on the boards. The 6-foot-5 Hipp had 13 rebounds and Brown snagged 7.

Terrance McFadden and Derik Simon each had 11 points to lead Bethune-Bowman.
