Photos: Huckabay beats Richland Springs in 1A girls basketball playoffs, advances to first state tournament since 2006

For the first time in 16 years, the Huckabay Indians are headed to the UIL's Class 1A Girls Basketball State Tournament

MANSFIELD, Texas — Stephenville Huckabay kept its perfect 2022 record in tact Saturday by rolling to a 52-42 victory — its 16th consecutive win — over Richland Springs in the Region III-1A championship game at Mansfield Legacy High School.

Huckabay, which improved to 35-6 overall with the win, was also vaulted into the UIL's 1A Girls Basketball State Tournament after beating Richland Springs and scoring a 39-35 victory against Dodd City in the regional semifinals Friday.

It represents the Indians' first state tournament appearance in program history.

Huckabay will face Region IV champion Neches (30-6) at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Alamodome in San Antonio for a trip to the Class 1A state championship.
