TAPPS powerhouse Lake Country Christian tops West Oso in 63-49 shootout win (Photos)

Dougie Dodard's four touchdown catches helped power Fort Worth Lake Country Christian to victory over Corpus Christi West Oso in an explosive 63-49 shootout win

JOHNSON CITY, Texas — Corpus Christi West Oso and Fort Worth Lake Country Christian — two of the most prolific and high-scoring offenses in Texas high school football — rose to the challenge of keeping pace with another elite offense.

In a high-flying neutral site non-district battle, the Lake Country Christian Eagles soared to 63-49 shootout win over West Oso on Friday night at Eagle Field thanks to three second-half touchdowns that helped erase an explosive back-and-forth first half between the Bears and Eagles.

In a wild show of offense, West Oso and Lake Country Christian traded touchdowns and early momentum swings throughout a chaotic first half.

The Bears and Eagles combined for 12 first-half touchdowns, six each, to drag a 42-42 tie into halftime after exchanging big plays through the air and on the ground.

Lake Country Christian, however, gained some much-needed separation by outscoring West Oso 21-7 throughout the second half, as the Eagles' defense played a decisive role in securing the victory down the stretch.

Junior wide receiver Dougie Dodard hauled in four touchdown catches to highlight a big night for the Eagles'e , while senior running back Elijah Huff led the way for the Bears with five rushing touchdowns on the night.

Fort Worth Lake Country Christian (5-0) will look to keep rolling when the Eagles kick off their TAPPS Division III District 1 slate next week versus the Willow Park Trinity Christian (1-4) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at Eagle Stadium in Willow Park.

Corpus Christi West Oso (2-4), meanwhile, will to rebound with the start of district play in 15-4A DII when the Bears return to action against the Ingleside Mustangs (5-1) at the same time Friday, Oct. 7, at Bear Stadium in Corpus Christi.
