ALLEN, Texas — Think Montgomery Lake Creek might take a step back after its perfect 41-0 season and UIL 5A state softball title in 2022?
Think again.
The Lions (10-0), who have not lost in more than a year, thumped Allen 13-4 to extend the longest high school softball win streak in state history in the second of an Allen ISD Softball Tournament doubleheader Thursday night. The game was over in four innings before it was called due to a time limit.
Ava Brown, a pitcher and first baseman committed to Florida, pitched the full game against Allen, throwing nine strikeouts in 85 pitches.
She started hot, quickly dispensing the Eagles' first three batters to open the game.
In the second inning, Allen got two runs in on a bases loaded walk and a foul out where the runner tagged up from third. Lake Creek wasted no time getting right back into it thanks to a bases loaded passed ball, and then LSU-signee Maddie McKee picking up her first RBI of the day on a fly ball to left field.
McKee, who was 3-for-7 on the day with two RBI and a double, scored on the next play when Carmen Uribe legged out an infield single to short. Uribe then scored to make the score 4-2 after two innings.
In the third inning, Brown struck out two batters to put the Eagles down in order again. Then, Lake Creek proceeded to rattle off nine runs in a bottom third inning that elapsed 45 minutes.
Allen added two more runs in the fourth inning to make the score 13-4, but time expired during the Lion half of the inning, ending the game in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Brown had four hits in five at-bats, three RBI and two walks on the day for the Lions, who graduated just three seniors and returned the bulk of its roster from its title run last season.
