What happened in the Texas high school 6A area round?

The area round of the Class 6A Texas high school baseball playoffs wrapped up Saturday as teams played for a spot in the regional quarterfinals.

REGION I

Keller def. Pebble Hills (2-0)

Game 1 (May 11): Keller 8, Pebble Hills 3 (1-0)

Fisher Polydoroff launched a home run on a 2 for 4 hitting night to lead Keller to a Game 1 win. Keller scored the game's first five runs and pieced together 13 hits on the day.

Game 2 (May 12): Keller 7, Pebble Hills 1 (2-0)

Zach Makarewich hit a two-run home run and went 2 for 3 with two RBI as Keller pulled away in the fifth inning to take game one. Jackson Hill went 2 for 4 at the plate for Keller, which coupled with a seven-inning 11-strikeout start from Ty Zahradnik, only allowed one early run on six hits. Pebble Hills was led by Sacramento State commit Dylan Torres, who went 3 for 3 with a double.

Weatherford def. Midland (2-0)

Game 1 (May 11): Weatherford 5, Midland 3 (1-0)

The Kangaroos rode a shutdown relief stint from W Jordan to a Game 1 win. Jordan checked to the bump in the third and pitched five innings with only one hit allowed, no runs and seven strikeouts. Weatherford took its winning lead in the bottom of the second on RBI doubles from Jett Vindiola and Omar Juarez and tacked on an insurance run in the fifth. 

Game 2 (May 12): Weatherford 7, Midland 1

Wyatt Perdue went 3 for 3 at the plate with an RBI double and the Kangaroos rolled to an area round series win. Kannon Kemp fanned seven batters opposite one walk, two hits and no earned runs in the winning start for Weatherford.

Allen def. Arlington (2-0)

Game 1: Allen 7, Arlington 0 (1-0)

Allen punched two runs in on a ground ball error to the short stop, then tacked on another on a pop-out on the next at-bat to put the game out of reach at the end of the fifth. Eagles starting pitcher Chandler Hart fanned four batters and didn't allow a run opposite three hits across four innings. 

Game 2: Allen 2, Arlington 1 (2-0)

Tate Greene drove in the winning run with a hard ground ball double in the bottom of the ninth as Allen escaped the area round by fending off Arlington on Friday.

South Grand Prairie def. Flower Mound (2-0)

Game 1: Flower Mound 5, South Grand Prairie 0 (1-0)

The Jaguars logged five hits and rode a shutout pitching outing to a Game 1 win.

Game 2: Flower Mound 9, South Grand Prairie 0 (2-0)

UP NEXT: Flower Mound faces Allen in the regional quarterfinals.

Frenship def. Byron Nelson (2-1)

Game 1: Frenship 1, Byron Nelson 0 (1-0)

A sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth put Frenship on the board and a complete game shutout by Nick Blevins fueled the Tigers to a Game 1 win. Blevins gave up four hits but no runs, no walks and struck out four batters.

Game 2 (May 12): Byron Nelson 1, Frenship 0

Gavin McCurley scored the lone run of the game in the fifth inning, sending in Kaleb Castillo from second and Luis Santiago Castro fanned three batters in a two-hit complete game shutout.

Game 3 (May 13): Byron Nelson 11, Frenship 1

Kurt Ippolito logged four hits in four at-bats and Byron Nelson rode a five-run fifth inning to a series clinching win.

Americas def. Southlake Carroll (2-1)

Game 1: Americas 7, Southlake Carroll 6 (1-0)

Andres Lopez rattled off the game-winning hit to help El Paso team edge out Southlake Carroll in Game 1. Adrian Quintana scored the winning run and also got the win on the bump for Americas.

Game 2: Southlake Carroll 5, Americas 3 (1-1)

Game 3: Americas 5, Southlake Carroll 2 (2-1)

Down goes the defending state champion. Americas fended off the reigning 6A champs in the rubber match of the area round series on a 10-run rule.

Hebron def. Dallas Jesuit (2-0)

Game 1: Dallas Jesuit 5, Hebron 1 (1-0)

Dallas Jesuit built up a 4-0 lead through three innings and padded it with an insurance run in the sixth to run away with Game 1. Jonah Timmons was 2 for 3 at bat with an RBI.

Game 2: Dallas Jesuit 7, Hebron 1 (2-0)

Guyer def. Martin (2-0)

Game 1: Guyer 4, Martin 3 (1-0)

Guyer rode a three-run home run by Blade Carver in the bottom of the third to go up two and held on to take Game 1. Jack Cagianello threw eight strikeouts, four walks, three hits and gave up two earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. 

Game 2: Guyer 10, Martin 1 (2-0)

Caleb Cowan launched a three-run homer in the fifth and Hawk Bowers added a two-run blast in the sixth as Guyer put its stamp on an area round series win.

REGION III

Kingwood vs. Strake Jesuit

Game 1: Kingwood 5, Strake Jesuit 3 (14 innings) (1-0)

Soto hit a two-RBI single in the top of the 14th inning to break a tie and Wesley Lawson closed out the final frame as Kingwood escaped a marathon Game 1. Logan Harris had 11 strikeouts in 7.1 relief innings for Kingwood and James Rheaume had three hits in five at-bats and drove in two RBI for Strake Jesuit.

Game 2: Kingwood 4, Strake Jesuit 2 (2-0)

Kingwood scored on three consecutive first inning at-bats and never relinquished its lead. J Arquette drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, Fuentes followed up with an RBI single and T Boatright drove Fuentes in on an RBI single to left field to go up 3-0 early. Strake Jesuit got two runs back in the second on an error at shortstop.

Clear Springs def. Dobie (2-0)

Game 1: Clear Springs 5, Dobie 4 (1-0)

Clear Springs erased a four-run deficit late to edge out Dobie in Game 1. Dobie led 4-0 when Clear Springs tacked on three runs to pull within one in the fourth inning. In the fifth, Andrew Fonte drove in a run on a line drive double to left field and Dax Massengale drove Fonte in on the next at-bat to go up 5-4.

Game 2: Clear Springs 8, Dobie 0 (2-0)

Tyler Ryden pitched a two-hit complete game shutout and Clear Springs rolled to a series sweep. Chris Richnow logged two hits and two RBI in five at-bats.

Katy def. Cy-Fair (2-0)

Game 1: Katy 9, Cy-Fair 0 (1-0)

Andrew Hilton hit a three-run homer in the fifth and finished with five RBI on two hits to headline an offensive eruption from Katy.

Game 2: Katy 7, Cy-Fair 3

Katy broke the game open in the seventh inning with a three-run flurry to put away Cy-Fair.

Tompkins def. Cypress Creek (2-0)

Game 1: Tompkins 3, Cypress Creek 0 (1-0)

Houston Christian-committed lefty Ty Dagley struck out eight and walked three in a six-inning no-hitter.

Game 2: Tompkins 13, Cypress Creek 3

Ty Dagley had a three hits, including a triple, and Tompkins rolled to a series sweep.

Pearland def. Atascocita (2-1)

Game 1: Pearland 8, Atascocita 0 (1-0)

Isaiah Castaneda went 3 for 4 with a double, a triple and five RBI as Pearland rolled in Game 1.

Game 2: Atascocita 7, Pearland 6 (1-1)

Atascocita's bats came alive early and Pearland's late rally fell short. Jaden Barfield checked to the bump in the second inning and struck out 13 batters in 5.2 with two walks, two earned runs and four hits allowed. Kooper Kendrick went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBI or Atascocita.

Game 3: Pearland 4, Atascocita 3 (2-1)

Anthony Avalos went 3 for 4 at the plate and Caden Ferraro struck out 10 batters across six innings and Pearland held on. John Moya drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth — a single to right field — and Franco Aguilar scored.

Clear Falls def. Summer Creek (2-0)

Game 1: Clear Falls 9, Summer Creek 0 (1-0)

An eight-run outburst in the sixth inning helped Clear Falls blow the door off of game one late. After two RBI singles and a two-run error, Matthew Novominsky launched a three-run home run to put the game out of reach.

Game 2: Clear Falls 10, Summer Creek 0 (2-0)

Lefty David Ramirez tossed nine strikeouts, walked three and gave up one hit in a four-inning start to set up Clear Falls' win in five innings on a 10-run rule.

Cinco Ranch def. Memorial (2-0)

Game 1: Cinco Ranch 4, Memorial 1

An Ethan Muniz two-RBI single and Lucas Franco sacrifice fly to end the fourth inning made the difference for Cinco Ranch.

Game 2: Cinco Ranch 12, Memorial 1

Cinco Ranch made quick and convincing work of Memorial in Game 2 to close out the series. 

Ridge Point def. Lamar (2-0)

Game 1: Ridge Point 4, Lamar 1 (1-0)

Game 2: Ridge Point 3, Lamar 0 (2-0)
