Sinton senior Blake Mitchell, the top high school baseball prospect in Texas, was named Gatorade Texas Baseball Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Mitchell, who also won the award in 2021-22, is a standout catcher, short stop, right-handed pitcher and a projected first round MLB Draft pick this summer as a catcher. MLB.com projects him being selected No. 14 overall. 

The 6-foot Mitchell is batting .471 on the season with 41 RBI and 20 extra base hits (six home runs, 14 doubles). Sinton leads Boerne 1-0 in a best-of-three Texas (UIL) Class 4A Region IV finals. Game 2 is scheduled for Friday afternoon. 

Sinton is the No. 4 ranked team in the SBLive Power 25 national baseball rankings. Mitchell is the No. 5 prospect in the nation in the class of 2023, according to Prep Baseball Report.
