AUSTIN, Texas — Texarkana Liberty-Eylau's bats jumped ahead with a six-run first inning and didn't look back in a 15-5 win over Canyon Randall in the UIL Class 4A state semifinals on Wednesday.
Randall pulled within two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Leopard responded with five runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to book a spot in Thursday's Class 4A state championship.
W.T. Jones was 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and gave up seven hits, two earned and two walks opposite three strikes in a 3 2/3 inning start for Liberty-Eylau.
More Texas high school baseball
Canyon Randall (38-5) wraps up its season following the state semifinal loss after the Raiders reached the UIL Baseball State Tournament for the first time since 2007.
Liberty-Eylau (33-6), meanwhile, extends its now seven-game winning streak in the Texas high school baseball playoffs with the victory to reach the 4A state championship game for the first time since 2006, when the Leopards won their only state title in program history.
Texarkana Liberty-Eylau advances to face the winner of the Sinton Pirates (37-3) and China Spring Cougars (35-5-1) in the Class 4A UIL Baseball State Championship at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 8th, at UFCU Disch-Falk Field at the University of Texas in Austin.
