Prosper holds off Denton Guyer for historic win

Eagles start Texas high school District 5-6A play with first win in six matchups

Prosper (Texas) took the lead at the start of the third quarter and its defense held firm to beat Denton-Guyer 31-28 to log its first District 5-6A win of the season on Friday night. 

Prosper took the lead with a touchdown at the start of the second half. as the two top-25 Texas high school football teams traded blows and momentum.

It's a significant win for No. 15 Prosper (3-1) under head coach Tyler Moore. The Eagles have now won 11 straight at home.

On a final fourth down heave with three seconds, Guyer connected down field and attempted a hook-and-ladder, but fell the receiver was tackled.

Prosper was led by Nathan TenBarge, who took 14 attempts for 93 yards and Josh Martinez ran in a team-high two touchdowns. 

Prosper fended off a 12th-ranked Guyer team led by quarterback Dylan McLaughlin, who completed 22 of 36 passes for 265 yards, a touchdown and an interception. 

Guyer beat Prosper in five previous matchups.
